A very good friend of mine, Graham (from whom I bought the Herald Rally Car a few years ago) lives there - in a lovely old traditional farm cottage on top of hill! He marshalled with me on RBRR, hence the good excuse to visit :-)

Dave's contact details emailed to you! The Volvo 240 I stripped had an o/d fitted similar to Triumphs - ie. pushed onto a splined mainshaft

thescrapman wrote: You got any contact detals for him?? No, lost touch when he did a Lord Lucan some 10 years ago. He is still around though, was at the Club Triumph Eastern Quiz night we attended. I still have a few CTE contacts, can make enquiries. Some on this forum too I believe! thescrapman wrote: Is it the Volvo ones that are a separate unit? hmmn, I remember Dave extolling the virtues of 3.27's, don't remember the Ford version though. Dave was a nice guy, always with an entertaining story to tell - but I was never sure how many of them ought to have been taken with a pinch of salt :-/ I seem to recall Dave was running a 2L - a good cruiser but a tad lethargic up hills and away from traffic lights. Of course it could just be my defective memory, not getting any younger you know!

A good hard seeing to was recommended to me (and worked!)

HOOD PLATE PLUGS AND BONNET CABLE AND FITTINGS
mikeyb replied to Martin Allinson nowt taken out's topic in Body
if we're talking about the same thing then I have still never seen a stag with them! I sure Triumph never sold such a thing (but I stand to be corrected!) Can you satisfy my curiosity and post a link to these things? -
HOOD PLATE PLUGS AND BONNET CABLE AND FITTINGS
mikeyb replied to Martin Allinson nowt taken out's topic in Body
do you mean to fill the gaps in the chrome hardtop locking plates behind the B - posts, that cover the hood hinge? if so I have never seen such a thing, if you have then someone must have made an aftermarket plug -
agree, they do look similar if not identical "for competition & custom use" does support my theory of "aftermarket" - if so they would be "period" have you had a tyre off to check for markings inside the rim? would appreciate a nod when you decide to sell :)

oops never noticed, just responded to his question! I did think they would look good on my TR4a though. Don't think they will fit your Spit smithy ;)

They will almost certainly fit a TR4 as the stud pattern is the same. it does depend on the offset though. What diameter are they - would expect 15" for a 4. 4's, 4a's etc. never had minilite style wheels as standard (afaik) - either steels or wires from the factory. Maybe a "period accessory" ? Not seen centre caps like that before. Do they look the same period as the wheels or "extra"? I guess there are no id marks or maker's names on them? Are you looking to sell? Rgds Mike

yes, although I was a little quick on the one that pulled the paint off - it put up a bit of a fight then let go rather suddenly! TR6 has sold by the way, chap let it go for £3k, never did hear from your mate :-/ -

mikew wrote: Just think of it as a battle scar to be displayed with pride ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D oh I wasn't too bothered as none of my cars are mint - it just told me that part of the paintwork needed re-doing again properly! I suspect those who take their stickers off soon after the event will reduce the risk of paint damage -

eeerm me too - several times over :-/ 2006 - Gertie - her paint was pretty buggered back then anyway. 2008 - 2.5PI - pulled paint clean off front pass door - one that I had hurriedly blown over not long before the event 2010 - Sprint - pulled laquer off n/s/r door. I never realised there was laquer on there before then - a very expensive accident repair some 10-15 years ago. (o/s/r door had same paint applied at same time and was fine) In both cases, the stickers had remained on car for 6 months plus following the events. So in summary, if you have good original paint, then I suspect you will have no probs. if you have had quality work done in the past then you will also prob be ok. If you have tired, repaired paint then be prepared to lose a bit. Colin scrapman has suffered sticker rash before now - his paint was also pretty tired -
I'm not too fussed about a thermal barrier. I just want to stop the manifold rotting away long term!
