  1. mk 4 style catches and curved  section for around door glass (obvious when unfolded!) is what you should have ..  . . Forgot to add if the car has been messed around with, it could have the wrong screen frame fitted - worth checking the header rail & catch configuration you have matches the holes/fixings on your screen frame.
  2. two types of Mk3 Spit hood frame - early have catches like herald/vitesse, late Mk3's have hood catches aka MK4 & 1500. The main difference between Mk3 & Mk4/1500 is the shape around the top rear corners of the door glass - rounded on mk3, square on Mk4/1500

    GT6 Mk 1/2 seats

    I need Mk1 foams etc too  . . . . .
  4. sounds like a worn pinion to me, suggest you sling the rack back to the supplier. Even if it might respond to shimming, it still ought to have been good from purchase
  5. side to side is column bushes. circumferential play could be track rod emds, rack internals or most likely the UJ/rubber couplings in the lower column/steering shaft itself. Or possibly as I found on the GT6, just a loose pinch bolt on the steering shaft to column joint, allowing a bit of movenet in the splines.

Thanks to sparkyspit I have a 1" so if all else fails, I'll see if i can find someone to machine it
  7. 7183 wrote:no need to split the spring mate, just insert a lowering plate between spring and diff.about 10 quid to buy. £10? Where from?   :)
  8. I can probably find you a couple if no-one else comes up trumps, not likely to make a P&P meeting anytime soon though so would have to pop em in an envelope to you . . .
  9. Bill Davies, Rarebits 4 Classics - posts here on the forum. Bought a nice long length from him at Stoneleigh for the GT6, priced by metre
  10. I seem to recall a thread on a similar subject before where the bushes turned out to be incorrectly sized. Suggest contact your supplier and emphasisng you HAVE take out the old sleeves
  11. Well "Anglia" is south of Watford!   . . . . . . .
  12. most o/d boxes I have watched recently have fetched £150 plus without engine!
  13. hmmn what about 1300 front wheel drives, lotus's, Imps etc which I think all use the same?
  14. Fair comment Alec, I have re-read your post more carefully and accept what you say.  I still however would not consider fitting one myself based on the well documented experience of others. As vitesse above said balancing risk between premature bottom end issues vs rocker issues is a bit of a no brainer. sparky spit recently wrote about an alternative (and I believe well proven in historic tuning archives) method involving slightly enlarging the oilways to the rocker feed. Rgds Mike
  15. sorry Alec, I have to disagreee - you are the only person who I have ever seen supporting the safe use of an external rocker feed. Almost everyone else who has posted on this sublect in the past (search for the many threads!) has experienced starvation of oil to the crank and/or other significant problems. I know I wouldnt touch one with a barge pole!   :-)
  16. good point, she is the registered keeper but the bill of sale is in my name 🙂
  17. oh but I do! 1981 dhc in Rover Midas Gold, fitted with S&S Prep 3.6L V8 with Holley etc. Wore it out on the 2007 10CR, been locked in the shed ever since!
  18. nope I don't like the black - but it may work better if you painted the trims silver?   🙂
  19. my Mk3 also has swingspring on original diff/driveshafts/trailing arms . . . . .
  20. that one doesn't exactly look road legal to me - no lights, no mudguards suspect they were driving a racer and trying it on  :-)
  21. http://www.connexionfrance.com/Speed-cameras-radars-Megane-police-14513-view-article.html Looks like the war on speeding motorists is hotting up. It also cropped up in conversation this weekend that the "carry your own breathalyser" nonsence has pretty much been suspended as being unworkable, I've not corroborated this though
  22. something smaller we could definitely have helped with Ted. Not sure about the final transport arrangements yet (and realistically won't know until 2nd) there is a very small possibility something may be able to be worked out - no promises. It depends on who travels with who from this end and in which vehicle - and of course how full it is! if you don't find another way drop us an email on the 1st and I'll let you know for sure either way. Rgds Mike
  23. 4953 wrote:really?? !! could you even buy all the components parts for that? Then what would it cost to pay someone to put it all together - knowing Frank he's spent untold hours to tlc to put it together :) no disrespect to the seller implied or intended - but it's only a Triumph engine and I fear he may struggle to sell at the price he is asking (good luck to him and hopefully for his benefit I am wrong!) If it had been a Ford, Lotus or Jaguar lump whatever then I suspect the story may be different. Sadly it's no different with our cars   :-/
  24. I had a good tutor   ;D An item is only ever worth as much (or as little) as anyone is prepared to pay! fraid we've missed the boat now on 100 quid a-types though    :-/
