  1. This is event 12 for me ( i think lost count), never done it with two, never wanted too.....mind you 6 times in a courier van three up was no picnic   ??)
  2. Goody wrote:So Tim, you wanta me to ship one of my Heralds over? No Bill make it a real challenge Bring the Willys Jeep  ;)
  3. I have done just the two 10CRs and fully intend doing another before my health or funding cracks and i just enjoyed them, had a cracking time with old and new friends, it pushed the car and the crew. not to breaking point although the car did play up a couple of times. Looking forward now to see ewhat the next one does, whatever it is.
  4. Lost the dynamo at Calais on return, got home ok, average 28mpg, 4 pints of oil, thats half less than last year due to new cylinderhead.

  6. MOE used 4 pints of oil, boiled up at the Italian border after a huge climb in the heat, fresh water and never a problem again with that, Dynamo packed up at the dock on return, got home due to a huge battery, there was a guiding and helping hand form Roy Lacey and his lovely GT6. The dynamo isn't that old but the front bearings shot and the the brushes are non existent, I wonder if the two hour 90mph drive across Belgium and Northern France had anything to do with it?
  7. We are on a later ferry cos I thought I was having to work on the Wednesday morning but should be at the hotel in Calais for about 9.30pm
  8. MOE booked in for a final check over and fuel filters, thats it then just packing stuff away.
  9. fix the overdrive (believed to be minor fault), replace the speedo cable check the oil levels and tyre pressures, can't wait!
  10. Well I will see if it worked
  11. My old (now Goody's) estate was cherry with cactus vinyl with Grey carpets very nice, but a bugger to keep clean, I have tried to send a photot but it's too big, I know there a way of reducing them but never had any luck, and I am a computer dunce lol
  12. I think my team wouldn't be impressed if I decided on the 1200 herald, I think it will have to be MOE  :)
  13. Well there is a herald in the habitat once again............my names Chris and I'm an addict
  14. I have a very good 13/60 front valance and also an cracking early 948 one but need a 1200 with rubber one, so if you want a swap with one of them do let me know.
  15. I did it 5 times in a standardish Courier Van had had no problems once in a herald estate which broke, the first time I used a bigger car was when another herald estate's new halfshaft failed and we rushed back to pick up a 2000 estate that I just bought, checked the oil and water, and went for it, 25 year old tyres and all, apart from the starter playing up, no issues. It's me thats cracking up I need a bit more support than herald seats can provide and I really like driving MOE, she did around 28mpg in my experience thats not much less than a 13/60.

A prize of some sort for whoever came back with proof of how far they had got. They were cheap and plentiful enough back then. I had one and it eventually ended up in one of these events and made to Kazakhstan near China, it was left there still running and the team flew back!
  17. Today saw the carbs set up by Aldon Automotive, Brierley Hill, new rear shocks fitted, didn't cure the problem but they are fitted now, brakes bled, passenger seat fixed, headlamps fettled with and I think thats about it, just got to sort out what spares and tools to take.
  18. I had an experience like Jason's, a herald estate I prepared failed on the way to London, we went back and changed it for a 2000 estate that I had just bought, just checked the oil and water, still on 25 year old tyres (not recommended lol) and it sailed around with just a dodgy starter showing up. I have had a lot of work done on my current car, but it was showing signs of wear so hopefully I have future proofed it somewhat.
  19. MOE's preparation is coming on, new water pump, fan and powersteering belts clutch, gearbox, overdrive, prop overhauled, two new driveshafts,  unleaded cylinderhead and oil + filter, fitted while I was on holidays. Had the radiator/heater flushed out, and did an STP coolant flush this afternoon, replaced a leaking fuel pipe, tomorrow will see new new antifreeze, brake check. There is funny noise coming from the rear I think, which had just started before the work was done can't see anything obvious might change the rear shocks and finally need the carbs rebalanced.
  20. I saw the herald on Friday, and it's going to be quite a job, but I have seen him work his magic before on his TR5 twasn't pretty but it did the job.
  21. My 2.5 conked out the other day and it was a blocked air intake, you never know where mice have been building nests!!
  22. Just ordered a new unleaded cylinder head, gearbox and overdrive, hopefully to reduce some of the oil consumption she's a bit smokey on start up and overun....gearbox and overdrive showing signs of age otherwise took her down to Coventry and back on the M6 today and she's real sweet, very happy in cruise mode at around the legal limit.......
