Have you checked the PRV to make sure its not been uprated? There's two spring lengths.....the longer the higher the oil pressure. Alex Mate, that's something I thought of - but the good lady SWMBO reckoned there weren't any noises. Anyway, it turned out to be the oil pressure switch had given up the ghost - leaking from all three pins!  >:( Slightly ironic. Went out to the main road to see how far it had been leaking and very very luckily for BOB (and all the bikes that race along the twisties) it only started leaking at the end of our drive. Phew. Looks like a tapered thread, so i'll not jam a bolt in there for the meanwhile and wait til i can get a replacement.

  4. yeah, paint chipped their before ... but no sign of a split. Will get out the degreaser and give it a go tomorrow anyway I reckon. ... and the garage floor was pristine until now :(

  6. Slight problem here with the hithertoo very reliable BOB. Wife sms'ed me today to say there's oil all the way down the drive and it's filling the oil catch pan in the garage. I got home to find a 300 metre trail of oil down the drive and into the garage ... and a dry dipstick. It's come from the passenger side of the engine but having run a beer tasting this afternoon i'm not really in a state to investigate right now. So ... I've mentioned the relatively high oil pressure before, anyone got an idea what the first thing to give in might be? Sump plug is in situ Spin-off filter is intact Oil pressure gauge line looks fine Dipstick seal intact and dry. Tomorrow morning's gonna be a PITA  :(

  8. Great work dazzer ... Mine are getting torn to shreds. Well it's always the passenger side. Shame they're so dear, maybe we could get a bulk order organised in a separate thread?

    2.5 crank

I can pull in top from 1k and i only have a cam skim and lightened flywheel ... And SUs. Runs into the 6k zone ok too. And that's in a bus.
  10. Gearbox mount was replaced when the engine gearbox was replaced. Should be fine still I suppose, but I could check. Packing pieces are in situ ... again the guy who did the engine / gearbox is a very long term Triumpher so I'm certain he would have got that right.
  11. I saw that Chris Witor's are Aussie made and decided it would be pointless re-importing them. The latest ones are brand new and I assumed they'd be the same. Also, it's only the passenger side one which seems to suffer. I suspect it's my cam combined with lack of pi that's causing the problem ... anyone else ever worn the paint off the oil filter from it rubbing on the chassis? When the next one goes I'll check out Greg Tunstall who concentrates on saloons and deals with lots of 2.7s and modified beasts ... he ought to know what's needed / available.
  12. No and i have looked too as i am on my third set after considerably less miles. Best advice i had was to fit loose and run the engine then nip up ... Seems obvious now. But still not going to last long. They are seriously inadequate.

    My Carb Issue

Take a deep breath. Search for SU carb tuning and follow the instructions, pausing to take it all in and understand why you're doing what you're doing. It's not technically difficult, and even if you don't completely solve the problem you'll know a lot more about that part of the car and it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

    Gasket sealing

But seriously, superglue on the rocker cover? ... interesting. Mine always seem to get stuck in and reused forever anyway.

I get someone to do it for me  ;D
  16. they're way past that. tried the wire wheel on them once and it made no difference. they may have some kind of coating from a previous refreshment but they wouldn't polish at all.

A 35 year old friend who has never left Queensland saw frost for the first time in his life the other day!
  18. Many thanks gents, I spose I better order those wheels now.
  19. CRAJ wrote:195/65 will give the closest rolling radius to the original 175/14 tyres (almost perfect!) Whether the 205 would fit would be down to the offset of the Revolution wheel as much as anything else. I use 195/70/14s on 6x14 MOMOs and have even had a 5mm spacer on the ??) rear with a rizla paper gap to the arch. I think Dave's mk1 is still on narrow rear track and Alan's car has the blown rear arches! Colin. Any idea what offset i should be looking for?
  20. i probably should have said i have a 2500 S with stiffened C W springs set to standard height. But sounds like the 195 is the safest bet.
  21. Hmmm ... thinking of splashing out on some 15 inch Revolutions for BOB but i'm unsure about what tyre size to go for. Am I right in thinking 205/60 or 195/65 should be correct for the diameter? In which case does anyone know if the 205/60 will fit ok? Cheers

    Oil Pressure

lagerzok wrote: Heh heh LOL - I'm using 40-70 or HPR 50 for oil consumption reduction in my old 2500 EFI until I get the fresh 2100 in it - needed a bigger battery for winter!  God only knows what the oil pressure is cold - I just don't rev it hard and don't have a gauge! Hmm i kind of ... 'need' to hit 5k in 2nd to get a good run at the hill where i live  ;)

    Oil Pressure

Thanks guys. I use hpr 40. It's 25 70 and maybe it's a bit thick for what i need. Gauge shows 100 plus at start up and at 2k once running for 30 mins warm is closer to 75 psi. Winter isn't long or particularly cold though so i guess I'll  leave it.
