    Herald carpet

heraldhabitat wrote:I know there a way of reducing them but never had any luck, and I am a computer dunce lol Open it with microsoft paint, chose select all, then go in to the toolbar and click image and in the drop down select resize/skew. In there you can reduce the size of the picture, but make sure when you save it, you choose a different name otherwise your original will be lost. Then post here :)

    Herald carpet

I haven't bought them yet Jordan, and the ones I'm going to fit most likely won't be moulded. The main reason being cost, at the moment I just want to get the car rebuilt an allow me to drive it. I was going to use one of the many available from ebay for around £100 just to get me started, then maybe in a few years when I've got stuff sorted I'll treat her to a moulded set.

    Herald carpet

My car is a 13/60 convertible and when I first bought it she had a black carpet set fitted, with black door cards and seats. I however have decided to fit grey carpets and keep the other bits black, I think when an interior is all one colour it loses some of it's appeal. My Jaguar XJ8 had Ivory leather seats, yet it's carpets were a sand colour which worked beautifully, the dash top and door card tops were also the same colour as the carpets. My current Jaguar X Type has grey leather with black carpets, which again works well because it makes the seats and dash area stand out better than if it was all one colour.
  4. Its a lovely looking little car which I'd love to do something with. However I am very poor and can't afford to buy and restore it sadly. If I win the lottery in the next week or so I will buy it and have it restored though :) I just need those 6 magic numbers...  ;)
  5. This Early 1200 convertible on Ebay UK has blue trim, and a blue dash covering too! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Early-Triumph-Herald-Convertible-1200-1961-/160951128828?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item25796f52fc
  6. Hello Chaps, I know there is probably already a thread on this somewhere but I have tried searching without success. Its likely already been asked but its been 7 years since I dismantled the car and seen how it was all done. My reference photos were all pre digital camera and have become lost. My Herald workshop manuals have gone missing also, I suspect my Dad may have packed them away by accident when he was looking through his racing books at some time. Until I find them again I must call on my fellow forum members for their help! And hopefully with your help I'll have this car on the road for Spring!!   8) I need to adjust the bonnet on my 13/60 and I have a couple of questions: 1) How do I adjust it get the bonnet to move forwards 2) How do I adjust it to raise it up at the front so it does not foul the over riders and valance I also have a third question related slightly to the bonnet which someone may be able to help with: 3) How is the wiring loom routed to the bonnet? You know the part for the lights and horn.
  7. A Family friend based in Arizona had similar things on the seats of his mint 1975 Cadillac Coupe De ville. The seats were white leather/vinyl and when he took the covers off to show me the underneath it was like looking at a brand new car.
  8. Hammerite is good when used in the right places. Like Paudman says it isn't very good on moving parts. The Vitesse Engine in my Herald came with a red block, and it looks pretty good, I don't know what paint was used on it nor do I know when it was done but some has burnt away under the manifold area. I've always been a fan of painted engines :)
  9. Hi Dave, a couple of years ago I got the column mounted switch bought for me as a Christmas gift, and I got the cowl for it brand new from Rimmer Bros for around £12 which isn't that bad and it arrived beautifully wrapped. The price of a new switch is around the £30-£40 mark I think. S.

    No oil filter?!

These Spin on filters, what filter do they take? My car has one fitted and I don't know what replacement filter it is. I've heard it's s Ford one but would like to know exactly which make and model the filter is from. The engine is a Vitesse Mk2 2L unit. S.
  11. I'll need to make my own custom brake lines, as my braking system is modified from standard. I was going to use copper but after reading on here is Kunifer better stuff to use? I only want to do this particular job once, so if copper is going to go faulty on me it'll be no good.
  12. Some of these old skool guys have amazing skills, I once observed a Cuban Gentleman make a new wing for an old car from scratch, and he used the kerb stones to shape it! That was as good as it got until a few months ago when my Dad, who was a coach builder for Ribble buses back in the 70s, was searching the garage for the dolly set. He couldn't find it and walked off up the drive with the metal for the Stock Car's new bonnet and some hammers. He used the telegraph pole to shape it, and then for the edges used the garden wall. When he came back all he said was "Look at the poles outside my old depot and now you know why there are chunks out of most of them." Pretty cool. I wish I had such skills.
  13. Pull off the boot seal there are a load of nuts and bolts under that holding the rear valance on.
  14. In our Coaches the carpet is held in by buttons, similar to the type that hold the hood cover on the rear deck. Seeing as the guy who trims our coaches is also going to fit my Herald's carpet, I was going to have them held in with this system. How much water seepage are we talking about though? As long as it isn't gushing in during a light shower, it should be fine shouldn't it?
  15. Could be the Month's worth of Rain in 24hrs across the UK issue. Its causing problems for anyone who has anything to do with cars. :(
  16. You can buy whole new looms I think in the original colours. This may be an easier option for you? The wiring system isn't too complicated, however it isn't unknown for the horn's wiring to confuse even time served auto sparks! I've got gold plated battery terminals on my Herald, apparently they make for a better connection. They also look pretty. :)
  17. There are loads of sets of steels on Ebay right now, check that out :)
  18. Another thing to do is make sure the HT leads are plugged in, in the correct plugs. I know someone who spent months trying to start an engine, buying new carbs, ignition parts, fuel pump and even began looking at a new distributor before I checked the diagram and pointed out the error of his ways. :)
  19. The reason you disconnect the battery is because once the 12V has passed through the coil to the solenoid, the shock it'll give you is enough to vulcanise a gold ring to a man's finger. I watched this happen to my Dad's friend when he was fiddling with my car. I did ask shall I drop the battery.... :-/
  20. I blame Jonny-Jimbo for this but: Today I have been thinking about bumpers a lot and have now decided that I will fot Vitesse bumpers to my car instead of Rubber ones. This is partly because I'm a magpie and also the white might clash with my colour scheme. On that basis: Grayfox I might be able to sort you out with a set of good quality bumper caps.  8)
