  2. There are nice 65A Lucas alternators on eBay quite reasonably.
  3. Leave the lock in place (it has shear bolts). To remove the column you need to undo- 1. the two long bolts holding the column to the underside of the dash. 2. the clamp bolt holding the outer to inner column (down by the pedals) - leave the centre big pinch bolt alone and just undo the side ones. It should slide off, but that can be seized. 3.   9. Always been very happy with my Strombergs too. They don't piss fuel all over the place like my SUs on the spitfire, whatever I do to them.... Standard car, original and 'unmolested' ;-)

  11. Hi, I have an opportunity to get a pair of NOS strombergs for my GT6. I tend to pick up things like this as having seen so many parts supplies dry up over the 25 years I've owned Triumphs.... Problem, my car is an 'end of run' Mid 73 Mk3 UK car, with the crankcase vents on the carbs and a single choke connected to the other carb by a hose. I can get either a 3426 'US emissions' pair 71-72, OR a 3507 pair 72-74, which I'm told have separate chokes, but are listed for non-US cars. Does anyone know which of these would be best suited to my car and easiest to adapt to my choke setup (and how)? I believe my carbs are 3432 looking at the manual. Tx Brendan
  12. Hi 2 pints out of 8, not too bad, at least it wasn't bone dry... Use any BLUE coolant - the pink stuff is for ally heads and does bad things to Triumphs... Dont worry about the brown coolant, its always a bit brown unless its newly filled. Drive it around a  bit. check the level again. top it up again. drive it a bit more and if its steady you should be OK. I'd take a large plastic can of water with you in the boot though.

Thanks Brendan PS I don't think the radiator is damaged - I've checked and there doesn't seem to be any water dripping anywhere. Hi. 1. You are Ok for a few days with water only, but antifreeze is also a rust inhibitor, so get some at the weekend... 2. No, its not just an overflow, but a primitive expansion tank. As the radiator cools the negative pressure opens a valve in the cap and sucks coolant back in. It should be about 1/3 full when cool. Fill the radiator and put some more in the bottle to cover the bottom of the tube. Having overheated myself when a hose split, I am aware of things that can happen to an overheated engine... :( - leaking radiator from a split seam - cap no longer sealing properly - thermostat not opening fully - head gasket leaking and head warped slightly. so i'd keep a close eye on things for a bit....
  15. Do check that the alternator and water pump pulleys move freely and have not seized, as this can be the primary cause of a failed fan belt...

  17. Its not a repair panel. Passenger footwell rest, goes inside the footwell and unique to the GT6.
  18. Yes, I have these too, and recommended them at the weekend to a guy in a Midget 1500 stranded at the side of the road with carb problems.
  19. Since I don't have the time or space to work on the cars these days (London's underground car parks with flats prohibit using them for 'car maintenance'), the 6 is with John Yarnell. John is rebuilding the front and rear suspension (Koni's uprated springs, polybushes, bearings etc), shipping the transmission off to Mike Papworth for a rebuild and an uprated/Jtype OD conversion, new canley diff, engine bottom end and bridge piece + crank oils seals, new head, replacing the dash and seats/covers..... Meanwhile all the Chrome is with a little place in S London being completely re-done. Basically it was a home rebuild over 5 years where the guy had the body off, welded everything nicely, repainted everything and then bolted all the crap back on..... I hope to bring the completed car to Duxford in sept.  8)

All back together now, and leak free for the moment :) Hi Andrew, Missed this reply first time. Glad its running OK again. I've bought a part restored Mimosa Yellow Mk3... Couldnt be without a GT6 ;-)
