with regard to your halfshafts ..there is only one of the faces that allows a bolt to be offered up to the assembly so you have to move it 4 times through 90 degrees to get the bolts in

i have a high torque starter for my spitfire engine. its quite a modded engine (havent tried to start it yet) but i was curious if anyone has fitted one and should i be using the standard starters spacer with it or not?

novatech in slough are old school rolling road tuners...they do loads of cars in the goodwood revival. i had my Volvo Amazon tuned there. on hs6 su carbs. they did a good job.

Does anyone have a working J type overdrive gearbox they dont need ? I gather its the type with the solenoid on the passanger side? Have a friend building a bond equipe who wants to run one in it . Fair price paid if you can help please let me know.

i have twice bought wiper blades from these guys. very good quality (unfortunately not the chrome type) but at £4.50 for 2 including postage you cant go wrong. Maybe the water pump is a mistake.

I use Wins a lot, parts have always been fine and theyre very helpful. That said for Diffs Ive always used Mike Papworth.

Hi Andy spitfire hose id must be 2 inches . the external diameter of the metal pipe it fits over is 2 inches cos ive just measured one with a micrometer. hope this helps Alan (you gave me a fuel tank about a year ago)

loosen the nuts off first then raise it up about an inch or so .take the old ones off ,refit the new ones . I always drive the car on to a couple of bits of wood like scaffold board first to give a bit more underengine clearance for a trolley jack with a bit of wood to spread the load..job done.

ok i think i have been sent a tr7 type one . its about 20mm diameter as opposed to about 15mm which looks like the early width. Ive tried counting the splines but too much christmas cheer recently plus age creeping up have made this a bit futile. Does some kind soul know how many splines there are on an early type mk3 column?

are later steering colmns easy enough to retro fit in an early car? Ive got a lovely old mountney astrali boss (not the new horrors) but its for a late spit not an early mk3 ,its too big for the splines on the earlier column. rather than spend ages trying to get the correct boss i though a 1500 column might be a simpler alternative. ive never had a 1500 but the key goes into some sort of steering lock on them i think. Can i just get a later shaft and strip out all the key assembly and then fit the shaft into my old outer part? Or has anyone got a mountney boss for an early car they want to swap for a later type one? This is the nice old thin alloy type not the nasty big black things everyone seems to stock nowadays.

i had this problem when i put a new diff in with the red bushes. fit the long pin in first across the diff then offer it up with a jack supporting it . I had to use a big hammer to rearrange the postion of the big holes on the vertical part of the diff mounting..I also used plenty of lubricant to ease the bushes into the rearranged holes(i had put the bushes on to the stalks first) . It took longer than i wanted but eventually it all clicked into place ! Good luck !

struggling to find decent seats for one of my spitfires. Thinking about the MX5 option but will they sit too high and have my head squashed into the roof? Anyone in the south east fitted them that i could check out ? Alternatively has anyone got a spare set of 1500 headrest type seats they would sell?

A spitfire is a light car.(even with me in it) i ran 1144 mintex on standard discs with no servo on many stage rallies and mountain events in europe with no problems of fade or cooked brakes. We did the 24 hours of Ypres FIA RAlly which had some flat out stages of over 25kms with no fading at all . I never tried 1155 because i never needed to .

i have a swingspring i want to try in my early spit. does it matter which way faces front? are there any marks to look out for if it is important which way round it sits? thanks
