  1. I fitted new wings and front panel and they are much thinner than the originals which means they can dent and deform easily, l too reused the reinforcement and it took a while to get them to fit nicely, had to use quite a bit of filler because they easily deform due to heat from puddle welding, l have also found they twist near the bonnet catch because they are so thin
  2. Think the wing panels are also different because the head lamps are smaller on the vitesse.
  3. Surely a second hand hood would have already been stretched so fitting will be different, some would say easier because all you have to do it match up the hole and hope it fits your body because you don't have any spare material  :B second hand headers in good condition are like hens teeth l got a second hand one that need repairing, you can buy new ones think their around 200 quid last time l looked.

  5. a lot of people use catch tank because it stops the valves and plugs getting oiled up, as you generally get more vapour from older engines.
  6. Welcome ! that's an early dash without the recessed heater/choke controls, certainly not 13/60. Body doesn't look too bad, hope is all there :)
  7. This is the stage that will test your metal as you could find you assembly everything and nothing aligns :-/ and you just think what the ..... l've just taken it apart and put it back together again, but as said above it will twist and settle a bit so you will probably find you have to add spacers to get a reasonable body fit. You also haven't said if its a saloon or convertible which makes things worse :B Good luck :)

    Seats enq

10492 wrote:Looks well that Herald. Where did the seats come from and how did you go about fitting them? Cheers. Thanks Willow, this is what they looked like before... I did have some modern seats but they were very heavy so found these cheap on fleebay and they looked narrow enough to fit as my transmission tunnel is slightly wider due to the auto box, they were as l said Wolfrace branded seats, l did not want to use MX5 or MGF because most of them have to be wound forward to get rear access which l thought would be a pain so l made sure l got seats that tilted with a lever. They came with runners so l made some bracket to weld to the floor to mount them to.

My brother recoverd the seat in my herald for me came up a treat considering how bad they were :) These were wolf race after market seats but they have the tilt function  ;)
  12. This is a TR3 tank fitted to my Herald, the filler is in the middle of the rear deck, used the TR tank because it has internal baffles which should help stop fuel starvation with the fuel injection, but l did add a swirl pot and fuel pump from the escort tank. I chucked a tin of tank seal afterwards which was worthwhile because there were a couple of tiny hole  :B
  13. A trick for welding a fuel tack is to run the exhaust from a car through it for about an hour or so this will purge any fuel residue out of the tank, but if you get an tank that has not been used for a few years you will be safe. You could fit a spitfire tank under the scuttle weld up the filler and just run two pipes to it about inch bore from the herald tank...

  16. I thought about this on my herald and my father had problems fitting some cozmic wheels to his Vitesse they rubbed on the rear arches, so when l rebuilt the rear buck l rolled over the arches then and l have fitted 185's on the rear and 165's on the front :)
  17. Sounds like over fuelling, had this on a Fiesta and as you did l changed everything even had it check a at an auto tuner, wasn't until l stripped the head of in desperation l had the inlet manifold off and turned it upside down and the emulsion tube fell out :-/ screwed it back in and all was fine ;)
  18. Found this and it shows clearly the difference between standard and LED http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/led.htm
  19. Frosts are selling in the sale for only 2.50  :) http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-special-offers-bargains/double-ended-trim-pry-tool-plastic-trim-tool.html
  20. I got a fork type one free with a Xantia l had in the past, the electric window stopped working and when l stripped it to fit one from the breakers yard found it in the bottom of the door and it was a snop-on one  :)
  21. 10158 wrote:check out Herald16V thread on his car he has a snazzy twin box system and he has some good pictures might help You can look at mine but the Y piece was a home made part because it had to miss the sierra diff, l still have the original vitesse Y piece. But yes you will have to make up mount to marry up to the straps from the rear silences, adding an extra one near the diff would be a good idea to stop it dropping too low and scraping on speed humps. My dad had it originally on his Vitteses but found it made the exhaust gasses become sucked back into the cockpit on the convertible during driving so he went back to the off set single tail pipe.
  22. I used Vitesse ones with my Zetec engine and they have been in for a year now and not showing any signs of deterioration got them off ebay, have heard that a lot of repro stuff is poor quality because they have no way to check it really unless we feedback to them so phone canley's and complain. You could also get some mouldable poly bush stuff and make your own mounts ;)
  23. Good luck with the weld-a-thon, the only advice l can give it check measure and check again, l got some complete front floor pressing including the flanges for the rear tub and gearbox cover floors from Canley classic and they were very good but took a long time to get right, l too had to fit new chassis mounts also, ended up building up the car and using the rear tub and doors to make sue it would be somewhere close when it all goes back together.
  24. Mine we're in poor condition but ended up getting a full set with the horn rail from the Triumph day at Stoneliegh  :)

    Bonnet

When assembling remember to put the step between the top panel and the wings so it matches the doors :), you can also use seam sealer to help prevent corrosion later. If you are using any new remanufactured panels you will find they are quite thin and are damages easily they also distort easier :-/
