Deleted User
NEVER run the big mgf wheels on stock studs, they barely hold the normal wheel on! you need to get some studs off a rover or ford then use the the proper mg rover nuts. were the studs you had cheapy new ones by the way? JP
Studs were orig ones !So do the rover/ford studs fit the hubs ?
Deleted User
yes they do, most rovers and fords, the scrappy is a good place to get nuts and studs, , the way you have yours set up is HIGHLY dangerous, i really dont want to see a third forum user in hospital! only use the bigger studs and PROPER rover alloy wheel nuts, there is a thread about what studs fit!dude you could have killed yourself! JP
I am def counting my lucky starsDo you know if MGF Studs are any good ? as there are a few dowm my local scrappy... I presume front and rear need to be changed ?
Deleted User
I reckon you used up a big wodge of luck vouchers! mgf are the same studs as on most if not all modern rovers, the mgf wheel nuts should be available too if there are cars in the scrappie grab 16 of those and maybe a few spares! you need to change ALL the studs, you can buy new studs off ebay too, i did, about £20, ford escort mk2 rally ones,
Richard B
Not disputing what Josh has said (in any, shape or form).Just to add, once the first stud has sheared, this places an uneven and excessive load on the other studs; thus the multiple failures.Once the first stud has gone the other (already weakened) studs are DOOMED. Deleted User
ps. you will probably need to either remove the rear hubs or drill a hole in the back plate to get the bigger studs in
AndreGT6
Hmm I'm about to swap 1/2 shafts. The DPO did a really bad job installing TR6 studs. So I got some new shafts for less then the cost of flanges.Do I keep the smaller studs or attempt to change out the small studs for TR6 long studs?A. CharlieB
With the stronger wheel studs, I presume they're 7/16" UNF, can you get wheel nuts which allow you to fit the original MkIV/1500 steel wheels?
AndreGT6
Yep, they are 7/16"I managed to find some for my minilite reps.http://www.justdrive.ca/gt6/06/0128/index.htmlA.
CharlieB
Unfortunately the Spit ones are unique I think as they have to hold the hub cap as well. Has anyone figured this out? I'd like to have the option of fitting alloys or original steels.
CharlieB
Or put another way: can you get stronger 3/8" wheel studs?
