Fuel pouring out of bottom of carbs??

Hi All,

My 1973 GT6 Mk.3 has been sitting idle for the last 9 months after running faultlessly on a 1000km run. Things and life meant that she stayed sleeping in her garage until today..........or at least I tried to wake her and she wee'd the bed!
She was turning over and over and then I noticed that both carbs (Stromberg CD150) had a stream of petrol flowing out the bottom of them. I didn't have time to have a proper look, but it appears that each carbs has a roundy thing underneath that can rotate and feels loose to the touch. From just my fingers this would appear where the fuel is coming from. Unusual that both carbs started doing this at the same time?!?! What is this thing? Any ideas why this happened? Any advice is welcome.

Cheers

Sounds like failure of the "O" rings on the jet holder.

Could be that the wrong ones were fitted and were under tension which can cause them to snap as they fatigue or simply incorrect section and shrinkage has occurred.

Best replace with the correct ones from a carburetor specialist as they don't coincide with the sizes in the usual kits of "O" rings which are too thin in section for this application.
Replace the ones on the jet itself at the same time.

It is possible to replace the one on the jet holder without upsetting the tuning by dropping the float bowl off to get at it. Access not all that good but it saves having to re-centre the jet.

Thanks for the information. Looking at rebuild kits online and there seems to be different options: CD150, CD150SEV, CD150SE, etc.
Does anyone know which version of CD150 the MK.3 GT6 had? (Late 1973).

(Hopefully not a mixture of the above! ;-) )

After the CD molded on the top of the carburetor you may find a letter stamped in.

At least the CDS  have an s stamped there.

If you can't find any stamped letters post a picture of your carburetors so they can be identified.  Show the bottom and each side of one.

Identifying by car model would assume that they are the original type fitted, which may well be not the case.
