Matt Neale
I have a Herald 1200 but it has a 12/50 engine with a single solex carb.I had a replacement downpipe from Paddocks. I could not get it to fit. It was too tight against the sump. Paddocks weren't aware there were any differences between the 1200 and 12/50 exhausts until they looked into it. They now say the 12/50 is significantly different, and will exchange the parts. This is ok but the old downpipe i took off looks almost identical to the 1200 downpipe (possibly just 1/2 inch longer in the neck to the manifold). The new pipe they want to exchange has an earlier bend after the neck. I can't see how this will help or even fit.Can anyone clarify the right down-pipe for the 12/50. What are the differences?ThanksMatt
Slimboyfat
The length of the vertical portion of the pipe from the flange to the first bend differs considerably.....and the flange gasket is different
Mark Hammond
Does your car have a 1200 or a 12/50 manifold? 12/50 manifold is longer thus the down pipe is shorter as Dave has said.Mark
Davemate
The picture is, a standard 1200 manifold with a 12/50 system, the 1200 standard pipe is longer than the 12/50 pipe as you can see Hope it helps, if it doesn't I can take a picture of the manifold and pipe together on the car
herald948
Notably, the 12/50 flange diameter is larger than that of the 1200. Length notwithstanding, they're not interchangeable.
Matt Neale
Hi. I have uploaded a pic of the manifold on my car. Is this from a 1200? The Engine number is GD.117915HE which I thought was from a 12/50. Given the above. Which downpipe should I be fitting? The 1200 or the 12/50. I'd like to get this sorted with Paddocks today so I can get going this weekend.ThanksMatt
Matt Neale
No idea why that pic was so huge!

Matt Neale
Thanks for all the help.I'll try the 1200 downpipe again today. I'm pretty certain it won't clear the sump though.
