mazfg
Anyone know where I can get a gasket that goes on the back numberplate lamp cowl to boot? Rimmers do one, but it's £28.50 for a silly piece of rubber!http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-705211
Paudman
Use the rubbers that go around the overriders; they're the same profile and you can buy the required length from suppliers.
mazfg
rare4bits do one at £22 + £3.50 p&p....they also do overider gasket:614041 Overrider gasket -Herald, Vitesse also fits others (car set) 1 £3.00 1.3 metre
Paudman
Sorry - my mistake; I was thinking of Heralds with the small light unit rather than the longer Vitesse cowl. I only realised when I checked the part number. Obviously the overrider seal won't fit this application! You could try Mick Dolphin or Chic Doig, but I think that price will be about standard for the part; Bill will no doubt tell you the difficulties involved in their remanufacture. I make the numberplate lamp seals by hand casting them in polyurethane rubber, into moulds which I also made by hand, from patterns which I made by hand! To say it's an involved process would be an understatement. When you look at the cost of polyurethane suspension bushes, made from identical materials but cast into simple machine-turned moulds, the numberplate lamp gaskets start to look like a bargain. Also cheaper than rubber parts being mass produced for modern cars.....Cheers,Bill.
mazfg
Thanks Bill. Now you've explained the procedure I can fully appreciate the process involved and like you say....it's more than an understatement. It does sounds a good bargain!
