Much easier to work on the body that way.But at least it's got some proper new panels ;)B.t.w. how does the floor look behind the seats?
Lister
i havent stripped it as i have space issues.the rear of the seats is very good, i think i have said before that its been stored since my wife had an accident it it over 12 years ago when it was not very old.it was extensively Ziebarted ( twice, as the first time they didnt do a good enough job)then wax oiled after that. Also it was sold from new by my father in law and has been in the family ever since it was traided in.have had the seats out to weld the sill in and looks ok. will need to tackle the rear trailing arms brackets when i get under it.the wheels are MGF ( obviously) and fit without any major problems. All the engine, gearbox and front shocks are off the car.AL
Beans
Just to be sure, remove the two large steel grommets at the rear of the floor. They have a tendency to rust, which then can spread to the rest of the floor.Welding in steel plates prevents this but it also strengthens the floor, reducing the chance of cracks in the floor. Lister
why is the rear suspension mount so hard to repair?mine looks ok but for a small piece of metal that look to stop the mounting falling too far down is a bit bent
Beans
Can't say they are really difficult or not. They just have a tendency to tear free from the floor when rust gets a hold there.
Paul S
Not massively difficult, but just a bit awkward and inaccessible..On MAP I ended up letting some rather thick metal through the shell for the trailing arm bolt to pass through, then through the shell to the inside, and a 90 deg bend to firmly weld it to the inside of the shell-but then I wasn't too worried about the aesthetics, only the strength! Before I did this mine pulled out twice on some the rought events-but they never pulled out again..

Paul S
You're a lucky man!! ;) I have a confession to make..I might have kinda accidently started work on MAP again today.. :o ::) not a lot, just cut out some of the grot around the inner wing/turret, and offered up a repair panel I picked up of ebay...and had a dig around and a think... ::) Attached pic is just the start, sadly the swift onset of rain and darkness caught me unawares and to pack up before any pics of where I got to.. You lucky folk with garages!! :P
