kbspitfire
Hi guys...I'm new to this forum and am not mechanically-minded so go easy on me!!I've had my only ignition key stolen (yep, I know I should've got round to getting a spare!)...I have a Spitfire Mk IV, '71...just wondering the easiest way to get the problem sorted.I've had a look at the barrel and there's no key code thing to allow me to get another key cut. So, I've had a look for new ignition barrels, and was advised by Rimmer Bros that their part UKC2719http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/triumph/spitfire/elec#Switches%20&%20Controlswould be what I needed. However, there's exactly this part on Ebay presently but the seller states it's for 1974-76.Can anyone help me with this?! Oh, and my bonnet key was also taken, so now I can't get to the battery either :'( ThanksKathryn
kbspitfire
The one on the right - at least according to my flat mate who just ran out to check! Do the FH62644 and FH62645 have reg. dates associated with them?
Alex
Not sure the one on the right is available anymore, I had big problems the week before the RBRR last year when all my keys were stolen as my spare key was unreliably weakened. That ignition also fits the tr7.
kbspitfire
Reg. date 27.01.71 if that makes any difference?! I guess I'll try and find the cheapest UKC2719.Any ideas on the bonnet lock?! Tried to get to it from the inside but it's got a plate over it...argghh...drilling it out likely to ruin the paintwork?
CharlieB
What's the commission no of your car (from the log book)? That should confirm which lock is correct.
kbspitfire
Ok, so according to my records I should have the earlier column lock, but I have the newer one in my car...is that possible?! And in this case can I replace with either or the one I currently have? Sorry for all the questions!
JamesR
Dunno about the bonnet locks, but can you totally dismantle these ignition locks and just replace the central part that fits into the barrel? That's the cheapest option. You might have to jack it up to get to the bonnet locks.
thescrapman
Is the key by your shins??Or is it in the side of the column up near the indicators/wipers.If the latter I suspect you have one of the many 're-aged' 1500's that now exist. You can usually get the tamper-proof screws out very easily.CheersColin
CharlieB
Taken from Moss catalogue:If your ignition switch has a cable out the back with a block connector like item 14 then you need UKC27191.If your ignition switch has spade connectors on the back like item 12 then you need 2190611
CharlieB
Having said that it may be possible to dismantle the lock, swap the levers around & get a locksmith to cut a new key to fit?I did that on my boot lock.
