VigCS
Hi, I bought a 1971 TR6 yesterday and I was wondering what I need to upgrade to an electronic ignition. I don't want to have to deal with points at all. Thanks a lot!
C Mallock
Something like the Aldon ignitor would do well. Lumenition do one as well but more money and had a few die on me
Nick Jones
Aldon / Pertronix is great. Works very well, easy to fit, discrete and easy to convert back if it ever gives up (v. unlikely)
VigCS
Dont I need to put something into the distributor that would replace the points? Coudl you guys possibly give me a direct link as to what I'd need?Would model 22D6 from here http://www.pertronix.com/ptx2005_cat/ptx05_auto.pdf work well? Jason
The cheapest place I found was here http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/triumph.htm it's in the US but the parts actually come from some sort of warehouse in Hampshire! Easy to fit (30 mins max) and they work straight out of the box. Like any Triumph owner should, always keep an ignition set in the glove box just in case - you can revert back to points just as easily.
VigCS
Can someone help me? I'm having trouble finding what type of distributor is on mine. It's a 1971 TR6.
Deleted User
The standard distributor for a TR6 of all ages, carburettor or PI is a Lucas type 22D6 - there are differences between the internals of the distributor for different markets and carbs/PI, but they are all Lucas 22D6 series units, so the Aldon/Petronix module for a Lucas 22D6 distributor is required. VigCS
So to switch to an electronic ignition, all I need is an ignitor and coil for a 22D6?
