Nick Jones
Jamie,Yours is an early pump. They didn't have any gauze. On those, the gauze was fitted right across the top of the sump bowl so the oil was "pre-strained".The other is the later type and intended for sumps with a simple open bowl - not sure it would have been original fit for a Mk3 though?Nick
jamie31888
well my sump is just plain and ordinary no mesh etc, the engine is an FD prefix.I was thinking of replacing it, especially if its 42 years old , but the ones i find look very different ???? JensH
You can use a new pump for a later engine (1500) for improved capacity, anyway: Carefully go through all measures (see workshop manual) - or mr. County might hit you :-/Or examine your existing one - its easy to do.
