AndrewC Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Apologies in advance for yet another newbie question. My '78 Spitfire was running rough after starting it yesterday. I would seem that the choke on the front carb had stuck open. Pushing the bottom of the mechanism under the carb upwards clicked it back into place and seemed to cure the problem. However I found that the bottom of the carb is covered in oil, which is probably what caused it to stick in the first place. This oil must be leaking from the dashpot and I was wondering which parts I need to look at or replace to cure it.Thanks in advance for any assistance.Andy Quote
rotoflex Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Is yours a single or dual Stromberg carb setup?Often a cause of a butterfly valve not closing is that the connector between the throttle shafts of the 2 carbs has become loose. Quote
piman Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Hello Andy, oil can't leak from the dashpots to the base of the carburettor.Just clean it off with some carburettor spray cleaner.Alec Quote
yorkshire_spam Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I would also check that the return spring on the offending carb is still present and not perished. Quote
