IVANHOE
My vitesse hood is fastened to the frame with velcro where the doors are. The glue has come away but is still very tacky. Is this the correct method for fixing the hood. If so whats the best glue to use? It was like this when purchased. I've never got round to looking closely at another vehicle. Also............ I have a 2" split in the side window. Can anything be done to repair this? Cheers --- Andy ---
IVANHOE
Any advise regarding the hood is most welcome. Cheers --- Andy ---
herald948
Andy, velcro was used on some of the later TRs (TR6, at least), but I've never seen it on a Herald or Vitesse! Some upholsterers can stitch in a new window; that's about the best one can do in such a situation. IVANHOE
Thanks Andy, So are you saying that where the frame is in hinged sections over the door glass, the hood should be just left loose?
herald948
Right. The hood is only "attached" at the header rail, under the stainless strip around the rear tonneau panel, and by the retainer for the door glass seal at the rear edge of the door glass. TR7th Heaven
The velcro idea is probably a previous owner's idea. It might make sense. As Herald 948 says there's nothing but the header rail attached and mine (the hood bits over the windows) flap around a bit at high speed (I fitted the hood myself so it isn't perfect!). Velcro would cure this and isn't too difficult to separate when folding the hood down.Quite clever really.Rich ;)
