Toledo Man
Can anybody recommend a good place to have my Stromberg carb (off the 1300fwd) refurbished? Is it even worth doing or should I have it replaced? I'm not looking for extra power so don't say "fit a TC manifold complete with twin SUs" or anything like that. I just want the original item. Greeks
Andrew Turner provided a decent service for me - he's based in South Witham, just off the A1, and is a Triumph fan himself - he sells at all the shows, so if you sent him your current carb. you could pick up a recon. at the show. Try these sites:http://www.su-carbs.co.uk/clientph/brmm4.nsf/supppages/turner?OpenDocument&part=4use the search to find the exact match on this site ... you might even find that you've got an incorrect one at the mo.http://www.burlen.co.uk/burlen-user/default.asp?Category=burlen&Service=Parts
Jason
Andrew Turner seems to get good press. www.su-carbs.co.uk DOn't be put off by the "SU" address, I'm sure I've seen Strombergs on his stands at shows. This work won't be cheap!
Jason
http://www.su-carbs.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/turner?OpenDocument&part=2Andrew's proces - £75 for a Herald 13/60 carb - that's virtually the same as yours so I would think the price is going to be the same. Greeks
Yes Jason, but ... you take a tenner or so off the price p/ex.Note that I believe he does much of the recon. work for the 'big' suppliers as well, so if you try some of them then you'll be paying a bit more on top. Jason
Almost certainly he does, his stuff turns up everywhere - I recently had a pair of 2000 Strombergs that I punted out on ebay, they cam with a car a friend bought but where Andrew Turners, still had the label on them I think. He does a good job. Apparently he also buys in old core so if you've got a pile of old carbies and manifolds you want to shift, talk to him! ;D
Greeks
He does, cos i sold him some SUs off a saloon ;D well, he knocked the price off of my sparkly ones!
Toledo Man
Yes, Jason the Herald 13/60 uses the same carb as the 1300fwd (i.e. Stromberg 150CD) and it seems that Andrew Turner charges the going rate. My workmate with the Herald 13/60 convertible is paying £75 to have his carb done and I was quoted £75+ by a local place (Soutar & Rhodes for you fellow Bradfordians) to have it done.Isn't that strange? Jason
There's a lot of factoring goes on where people sell out at a recommended retail proce but all the work is done in one place - it wouldn't surprise me if Andrew Turner does some of those carbs anyway! :)
