Replacement Distributor

Can anyone recommend a replacement distributor for the std Delco on a Mk1 GT6, the engine is totally std with no modifications so i do not need anything fancy, i've never really had any luck in the past with electronic ignition so am more than happy to stay with points etc, however i'm sure that really narrows down the possibilities.

thanks

Thanks, i'm after something a little more precise than the original where the cap is solid onto the body, the original never does quite seem to hold it firm and this of course upsets the timing. After a total engine re-build i want to give it every opportunity to work correctly right from the first turn of the key, also there is plenty of play in the shaft after 38 years of service.

thanks again

Replaced my Delco with a Lucas 22d6 and haven't regretted it. You will need a new clamp plate, as the collar on the lucas is wider than on the delco, and if you try to use the collar from the delco, the drive dog won't engage.
The 123 dizzy doesn't have a mechanical tacho drive, so you would need to fit an electronic tacho if you currently have a mechanical one.

The Mallory distributor intended for the Jaguar XJ6 works perfectly, for me it was the best option at the time, and has thus far been 100% reliable.

The part numbers are:

Mallory : YL type, model 23, part # MAA-2367801, (vented, non-flame arrested).
Spares:

Mallory, Red-Stack Distributor Cap      # 270 for 23 series.

Mallory, Red Rotor Arm # 309 for 23 series.

PerTronix Ignitor now fitted # ML-161

I bought the dual-point distributor and replaced the points/condensor with the Pertronix.

Obviously the Mallory is made in the USA, in Sparks, Nevada, I purchased mine through Checker, Schuck's, Kragen.

There is also a FULLY electronic Distributor that has more recently become available, called the 123 Distributor, these are fast gaining a good reputation, and are made in the Netherlands.

If I had not already bought and fitted the Mallory, I might just be drawn to one of these myself, escpecially if I still lived in Europe.

Best Regards

Léon

My GT6 Mk3 has had a 22d6 as long as I've owned it, & there are reports of a very few other US GT6's that seem to have had 22d6's apparently from the beginning also.  Which is strange, in that much of the emissions setup requires the Delco & its weird vacuum retard, etc.

A drawback to the Lucas is that it's been found that many of the presently available rotors & caps are of poor quality (creating a market for Rarebits & some US Triumph specialists that are now making a feature of offering only high-quality rotors & caps).

Leon's suggestion of the Mallory is good, as apparently they're maintaining tighter quality control over their replacement parts.  That's understandable for a company which has a reputation & market position as a source of high-performance upgrade components.
