Distributor base plates

I can confirm that a 25d4 base plate fits a 25d6. I had to strip 3 before I found a good one though. The little nylon pips had worn grooves in the steel of the base plate.

A quick rub with 1200 wet and dry and some grease made the replacement so easy to turn compared with the badly worn original.

Sadly the work highlighted I have the wrong distributor in the car.

I have a Mk2 PI one (41236B), rather than a Mk1 PI one (41236A). The replacement is dated 07-69 so only a few months too young.

A check of the on-line resource reveals what seems to be quite different advance curves.

The 41236A is

2000rpm - 7 degrees
800rpm - 7.5 degrees
450rpm - 1.5 degrees
no advance 175 rpm

The 41236B is

3000rpm - 10 degrees
1500 rpm - 10 degrees
650rpm - 3 degrees
no advance below 375rpm

Can anyone confirm if these figures are correct???

I have assumed it is distributor rpm rather than engine rpm.

finally I had assumed the 2 engines were very similar. Is the Mk1 version a 5* special??

Cheers

Colin
