jamie31888 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Hi Everyone,Has anyone purchased or does anyone know if this coil will work with my car:spit1300 mk3 1970 Delco distributorhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-Triumph-Spitfire-1300-Chrome-Standard-Ignition-Coil-Powerspark-/130605774641?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e68b5f731
bodders1 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Don't be taken in by the bling - it's just a coil.Does your car have a ballast resistor? If so, then this coil is not for you. From the eBay description "Chrome standard non ballast points type coil "If you use this coil and retain the ballast resistor, it will result in a weaker spark.
jamie31888 Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 I cannot recall taking off a resistor when i took the car to bits.I dont think the mk3's have a resistor ?
CHRIS211083 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 In my experience the only coils to buy are the Flame thrower ones. They are about £40 but every other one has died within a year. Even the lucas sports coil died. Chris.

I'm at work and my wiring diagrams are at home. If your car is without a ballast resistor then this coil will work fine.Chris: if you're destroying a coil every year, I'd be concerned about what is causing it. My car still has the same coil it left the factory with 35 years ago.
Velocita Rosso Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 MK 3 are 12v no ballast...but this one`s how much?
Clive Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I think there are some from a nissan micra that are suitable, probably lots of others. But a nissan one would outlast the car I suspect!
