A TR7 16V Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Are there any tips or tricks to replacing the courtesy light switches in the Herald door jambs? I don't seem to be able to find the simple clip-in round ones, only oval ones with with a separate screw. Graham Quote
glang Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Have a look at the price on this one! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LINREAD-Courtesy-Light-Interior-Lamp-Switch-classic-Mini-Mk1-S-cooper-Door/264273587485?hash=item3d87eeed1d:g:SVYAAOSwj39cqlSj I replaced mine with the oval type with screw where you cut the operator to length and found them to fit and operate better.... A TR7 16V Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 I included that one in the not found section. I've got two on order, but I've been looking if something like this might work? But the SPDT push buttons look to have a bit short a movement. Like this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Push-Button-12MM-Momentary-Micro-Limit-Switch-250VAC-15A-SPDT-1NO-1NC/222588617891?hash=item33d350c4a3:m:msmCoHxaitVmqEjYqhivu2w&var=521429213011 Graham Quote
glang Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I cant believe the prices on the originals and Im going to see if Ive still got the ones I removed from the car to see if anyone wants them for 100pounds! Trouble with push buttons is their range of movement - youd have to position it perfectly to operate correctly without it getting smashed. Also youd have to fit it from the inside which would probably be a pain while these can be swopped over so easily (well after drilling the small screw hole): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4X-ADJUSTABLE-CAR-LENGTH-DASH-LIGHT-BONNET-HOOD-DOOR-ALARM-PIN-SWITCH-12V-20A-UK/152840859726?epid=23023428167&hash=item239606704e:g:UTkAAOSwc2FaQJrb Quote
Antonnick Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 As a coincidence, because mine do not work i have ordered These which are meant for a morris minor. they look very similar to Triumph ones..... http://www.morrisminorspares.com/electrical-c54/number-plate-courtesy-light-rear-reflector-c61/interior-courtesy-light-switch-screws-into-door-pillar-p829898 Quote
glang Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 They do look good but I think theyre going to need a nut on the back to hold them in place (dont think the existing hole is the right size) and getting inside the A post could be a pain..... Quote
Antonnick Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Is there not an opening in the back of the A post? I will go and check now. Yes there is but my Herald is a convertible. PErhaps that is different. Quote
glang Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 No, mine does have access as well (although theres a cover over it) so there shouldnt be any problem getting a nut onto the thread of those switches😆 Quote
A TR7 16V Posted April 9, 2019 Author Posted April 9, 2019 Quoted from glang- these can be swopped over so easily (well after drilling the small screw hole): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4X-ADJUSTABLE-CAR-LENGTH-DASH-LIGHT-BONNET-HOOD-DOOR-ALARM-PIN-SWITCH-12V-20A-UK/152840859726?epid=23023428167&hash=item239606704e:g:UTkAAOSwc2FaQJrb I take it they're "adjusted" with a pair of side cutters? glang Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 correct. Think I had to change the wire bullet connector for a blade type as well Quote
A TR7 16V Posted April 9, 2019 Author Posted April 9, 2019 I'll see if the ones on order fit. I suspect I can adjust them with a hacksaw/file if there long, and pad the door with the rubber sheet I'll have left from making seals for the Doly's outboard headlamp shells. And yet another hole in the body won't be noticed. Purple and white wire. I've seen some of that somewhere. Don't think its got connectors on it though. I'll use some blue/white n blue/red I got for the Doly headlamps that I think's too thin for that. Graham Quote
