Dannyb
Does anyone have the resistance readings for a lucas water temperature sender. 1500 Spit. Danny
Ben Hutchings
I had a look in the forum archive but nothing there. A web search returned this which you might have already seen: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/gauges.html I guess what you really need is for someone to test a ‘known good’ sender (GTR108?) in a pan of water, thermometer and multimeter 😅
RobPearce
I did that measurement once - when I had a dodgy sender on the Toledo - but can't remember what the values were. I vaguely recall about 1Kohm cold but not whether that was the good or the bad sender 🤔

Danny I will try some tonight. Should be accurate, will use a megger and a digi thermometer. What temp range? I guess I could get down to something close to zero, and realistically up to 90degrees. (had a problem with my gauge not matching the ford sender, in the end found a genuine nos lucas one that works perfectly, but 1/8npt thread suitable for my engine)
Dannyb
Thanks Clive. The gauge does not match the actual water temperature. I was also looking at the adjustable senders although the are a bit expensive. Danny.
Clive
Right, got the megger, got the thermometer. What is missing is teh sensor I had a couple of weeks ago. A search has so far been fruitless, but will look again in the morning. I was sure it was on a shelf in the garage....
RobPearce
The senders fitted to my Spitfire and my Vitesse both read 1.4Kohms when cold, if that's any help.
Dannyb
I'm Tring to find thr resistance at normal temperature. Danny
RobPearce
Well, if the weather's nice tomorrow I'll take the Spitfire out and get it up to normal temperature, then I can measure it again.
RobPearce
OK so I went out for drive (to get my second jab) and after parking back up at home the sender measured at 70ohms. That's probably mid-scale but may have crept up a fraction with heat soak (as I'd stopped the engine maybe a minute before measuring). That's interesting asim sure mine is measuring a lot more. I will get a potentiometer and set it to 70 ohms and see where the dial reads.
