Encom Posted February 22, 2015 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Must be the Gearbox season - anyway 2nd gear in the Vitesse sounds like noisy tappets when coasting along lightly loaded. 3rd same sound just not as loud. 4th no worries, perfectly quiet.I have noticed the 2nd gear noise has gotten allot more pronounced over the past couple of weeks.So question being, what's knackered? how bad will it be if I keep driving on it? Pete Lewis Posted February 22, 2015 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Most likely the mainshaft spigot tip bearing has failed hence quiet in 4thmainshaft may be scrap now.its the weakest part of the gearboxlayshaft spindles , sliding sleeve springs, mainshaft bronze bushes , input and output bearings all have have inputs to the wear and tearmany gears are past their life and fatigue failuresMike papworth does a good rebuild with an 18mm spigot which has some life in itThis dolly mainshaft and modified input shaftpete8pete Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Better order at least a rebuilt kit, and most likely a main shaft.I have a club run in 4 weeks, so I hope the postage gods are kind to me.
