Sorry Mr R.

I just couldn't resist the temptation.

I had indeed realised that the photo was taken from Mr Carruthers' very nice looking Spitfire.

I call him Mr Carruthers out of respect for a man who has his own individual following.

Big Respect.

Yeah, read through it myself too  :D :D

I'll even forgive the anti TR7 comment - whilst those ideas continue the cars stay cheap and i can afford to run and thrash them around the country.

Well done James - I think we'll be seeing you around Club Triumph for a while yet ;)

It was just the shock of finding myself in the company of Greatness.

We don't have much up here.

My computer is powered by freshly dug peat and our candles are kept alight by dipping them in illicit whisky and sheep dip.

However, the link came through newish member MWF, who's name is very similar to mine although, I can confirm, we are not related.

Bask in your adulation!

"We are not worthy!"

But Mintylamb.co.uk is a damn good little site.

Rats.  Now I'm swearing.  It's that Raider's bad language rubbing off on me!

I was going to cover myself but then wasnt sure if anyone was going to read it... I've never made an anti-TR7 since actually thinking about them in a mature way... I didn't used to like them - but I reckon they're actually quite attractive now... though the rear end is still going to take a while to get used to...

Wouldn't mind an rallyfied FHC Sprinted TR7... big wheel arches etc... something I could play with and thrash about.

My whole idea of my car has changed now... it'll take me a while to figure out how to describe it. But it revolves about using it, what it looks like, what it doesnt look like, and how I respect it and treat it.

I can rise to the bait ;D

I am sure we can have some kind of raiding party into Scotland so beware :P

I must aim to do one of the NESCRO events in 2005 - probably yours.

How can anyone be anti TR7's?

They may not be my cup of tea but they're damned fine cars.

Raider, I used to go to see Tony Pond and Rob Arthur in their TR7 and it was the highlight of the day.  Everyone had an Escort.  It was so boring.

BL up against the might of Ford, Chrysler and General Motors.  It was great to cheer on the underdog, especially when it was Pond on full song.  Total committment and a sad loss to us all.

Who can forget, if they're old enough, the Barrie Hinchcliffe videos on World of Sport and Grandstand showing the Manx Rally or Ypres.

Suddenly, Pond would just explode onto the screen and then he was gone.  Just magic.

Four wheel drive, turbochargers and office hours rallying killed off all of my interest in the sport.

How can anyone be anti TR7?

How can anyone be anti any type of classic car?

If it's being used and enjoyed, who cares.

People who are anti any type of old car are not yet mature enough to join the rest of us.

Rant over.

Thanks Raider.

You'll be most welcome.

You may find it a bit pedestrian after the RBRR but we tend to stay away from motorways and head into the mountain passes.

Just pack a set of hollow legs and have your party piece ready for the finish "do".

La Carrera Caledonia starts at Gretna in 2005, probably on the first weekend in June.

Greeks now you see why I never put those brakets on!

To pick up your point about rallying Mr TR7 Raider whipping boy nutter!-(buy the way I dont dislike TR7s) you said rallying just isnt the same anymore, well all things change! but the events Graham and I have done this year have been great the highlights being Rippon Motor Sports Club St Wilfrids Rally, and the Targa Rustincana, the rippon event was run by REAL petrol heads no fancy stuff just balls out driving fun with tough navigation,The rusticana had some of the best test sections I have done ,both events didnt break the bank, the rippon being £50 entry the rustincana £125
Both events had the RBR "feel" to them ie serious fun- and not too much paper work!

Yes WRC is completely different but its unfair to compare the modern 19 stage rally GB to the 69 stage RAC of 1979, No way could you have todays WRC cars completing a 69 stage event, the cars would be slower de-tuned endurance machines compared to the Hy-bred high performance "sprinters" we see on WRC events  now, which ARE exciting to watch
Its two different sports
But there are clubs out there putting on stage events that cars like ours can compete in,yes more regulations than when you were doing it,but most of them sensible safety ones!
If you dont want to do stage rallying (which is expensive) Road Rallys can provide just as much fun ask Graham
I hope to get the Taxi sorted for Nov when we will tackle the illfracombe night rally (road rally)
When baby comes and things have settled down I aim to finish the safety mods off on the Taxi so she can enter a stage rally for classics. Then I will form my opinions on stage rallying for classics!

No MWF.

I'm not your Daddy.  So stop calling me that!

I've never been south of Carlisle in my life and stop sending the CSA round to my house!

I've no money left anyway.  It's all gone on classic rallies.

However, if you'd asked if I was your Mummy, then.....

I've led a chequered past that I'd rather not reveal on the Forum.
