dollyboy
what exactly have you 'acquired' and what exactly doesnt fit? does the cover plate bolt onto the flywheel? do the splines on the sprung plate match the input shaft of the gearbox? All Triumph owners are welcome on this forum - there can be some "joshing" between board members about other models but that's all it is.Unless it's the TR7 v GT6 grudge match of course :D
1300dolly
Joshing is all it was but at the end of the day when all is said and done its the dolly that rules supreme. well they must be overwise i wouuldn't have 3 of them would i? No comments about having 2 as spare cos they keep breaking down.Justyn
heraldcoupe
Nothing wrong with Dolomites at all....... most of us have a couple of rusty ones in the garden, just to provide spare engines for our proper Triumphs! :PCheers,Bill (who likes Dolomites but couldn't resist!) AdamSindrey
Proper triumphs? these engines are far to good for your proper triumphs! You can stick with your pig, iron over head valve, bearing shreaders :P
Raider
Not to mention those huge anchors known as 6 pot lumps :PMind you I have one too in my Vitesse - that doesn't seem immune from rust tho ::)One route to publicise the merits of the Dolly is for more Dolly owners to use them actively - then I could award points in the championship tables. The Dolomite/Toledo is currently in 6th - two places above the Herald/Vitesse :o

Some of us returned to the old pig iron for a bit of sanity! I like my boat anchor - it sounds nice.fight, fight, fight....... AdamSindrey
there will be no publicising the merits of dollys! There cheap and under rated (as opposed to expensive and over rated :P) and thats the reason I've got one! When Barry Chav-ly Can't keep up with my 30 yr old brick I feel good. But I'd feel a right pillock being showed up by a moped in my 1200cc convertible! The slant 4 is the best engine Triumph ever made. How many of our cars are still showing up cars in similar classes 30 years down the line? ;D

How many of our cars are still showing up cars in similar classes 30 years down the line? ;D[/quote]I still have warm memories of my dad's Dolomite 1850 and Sprint. Warm that is until the heater went cold, and we had to sit in the car(s) waiting for the very nice man to take us home. Reliability wasn't a word used to refer to either car. The 1850 was traded in when 3 years old with 36000 miles showing, to be replaced by the new Sprint, my dad's mid-life crisis car. That was a little more reliable, but was rotting at an alarming rate by the time it was 18 months old. Dad got sensible after that and bought a Ford Escort, dreadfully dull but reliable, which counted for a lot in terms of domestic harmony!I've only had the one roadworthy Dolomite, that mercifully had the pig, iron over head valve, bearing shreading engine, so it had a 100% reliability record. Cheers,Bill.
Nick Jones
Aye well, point taken but I ditched the 1200 lump in the Herald nearly 20 years ago for a 1500 pinched from a Dolomite. The 90 horse 1300 currently installed is much more acceptable and the 110 horse beasty (also 1300) it used to have (yep, it went bang) was great for embarrassing the XR3i brigade (ok it was a while ago). The Vitesse is usually treated in a more loving manner.I did enjoy my Sprint and it was reliable too. More than can be said for the various 1850s my brother an I once owned though, which suffered from all the problems mentioned earlier plus mass destruction of gearboxes. The only downside with the Sprint (perhaps a reason for the engines survival) was the impossibility of thrashing for long due the pathetic brakes - most rapid and alarming fade I've ever encountered! That slant four must be nearly as heavy as the 6 pot boat anchor though?Perhaps we need a 'good natured abuse' category in the forum....?Nick
