Big_d
My 1970 Vitesse mk2 which I've just obtained has no oil going to the rockers. When have removed the head and blown air down the oil way from the rockers and through the block, so that is clear in both directions to the cam.Having changed the oil and filter and cleaned bypass valve on start up we get 80psi pressure but this falls when warm and the oil light comes on up to 1200rpm, any suggestions or are we looking at a rebuild. C Mallock
Unsure about the 6cyl but oil supply to the rockers is very marganal on the 4cyl engines. You can buy i pipe which links the rocker feed to the main bearing feed but have heard that fitting it can cause exess oil consumption from it going down the valve guides
Nick Jones
Oil pressure should be 40 - 60 psi @ 2000 rpm hot. Hot idle could easily be down to 10 - 15 psi.You say the oil light can stay on to 1200 rpm - but what pressure is that? Standard switch would be 3 - 5 psi which would be bad news, but a decent gauge should be used to check it.Either way 80 PSI cold should mean you get oil to the rocckers when cold at least. What about the rocker shaft itself? They can clog inside. You never get much oil to the rockers anyway, just a dribble from the hole on the top or each one when the engine has been running a few minutes so if you are expecting it to be spraying out - won't happen!CheersNick
Big_d
Thanks Nick,But even when cold with 80psi we get nothing not even a dribble from the rockers, these have all been off and cleaned etc with some being well worn towards the front, probably due to no oil.cheersDave
