animator
Had trouble starting my herald the other day, have taken off the starter motor and found half the teeth on the pinnion have stripped - anyone know where to get just the pinnion gear without buying a whole new motor? valencia1
are the teeth on the ring gear worn as well? might be worth sourcing a s/h motor if so beforefitting a new pinnion and finding it may not work. probably need to go to a lucas agent for a new pinnion unless anyone knows different? valencia1
might be talking about two different types here, inertia and pre engaged(vitesse) this has asolinoid attached on top. but you never know!!!
Clive
vitesse/herald/spitfire/gt6 all came with the clanky inertia starter motor, so unless they have been played with should all be the same! (although the pre engaged would be nice on the 6 pots! shame it needs a flywheel/or ringgear swap!)Clive
bxbodger
While the starters out, turn the engine over slowly by hand or by pushing in gear, and check for wear all the way around the ringear on the flywheel,as just replacing the pinion or starter motor will be a waste of time if the ring-gear is worn. Some engines are prone to stopping in one particular position when you switch off, which means that the starter pinion ends up whacking the same spot on the ring gear all the time.If the ring IS worn, all that will happen is that the new pinion gear will wear out pretty quickly!!!
