  1. One of my oldest friends that I grew up with and have remain close friends with is currently fighting terminal cancer. Shes 42 the same as me, has two daughters and a husband. Hers all started with a swollen leg and progressed to almost having it amputated due to a tumour on the vein wall( sarcoma). They cut the vein out and put in a graft......this failed and had to be done again. She got sepsis and nearly died last June.....august she was on the home straight waiting to go home.....end of September she had a scan and was told she now had terminal cancer as she has tumours on both lungs. She was told she'll be lucky to see xmas 2017. Currently looking forward to chemo in possibly in the next few months...... Sarcoma isn't a word I'd heard before......and wish I'd never heard. https://sarcoma.org.uk/
  2. If it's not broke then why fix it? If people are looking for change why don't they just re invent the wheel or something?
  3. Let's be honest Nick,it was never going to be the bit about Ferny growing up was it?........
  4. I reckon you could flog a dead horse..... Have you tried eBay?
  5. W'zoyland I thought it was great and had an old school type feel.....how I'd imagine a pit stop on a proper night rally if that makes sense? Shame no toilets for the ladies but you can't have everything and I know the ladies in our particular group were aware of this beforehand.
  6. Nicks vitesse ready to go hahaha No seats, no roof( actually that didn't matter after all) engine not run in and tightened down...... Faulty electrics....dodgy headlights..... Needed total checking over as even the front links are greased
  7. That's pathetic David......if that's all you had to do why didn't you use it this year....... I'm shaking my head
  8. I've been thinking about this over the last couple of days...... This years run other than a distributor failing and a water pump that's looking poorly it's been pretty much trouble free. The distributor showed no signs of failing it just stalled and that was it.......swapped and off we went! So next years entry...... Polish it so stickers don't damage the paint and go I guess?
  9. Every year there's something and at the start we all get advised of this. Let's try and remember the organisers are also getting cars ready and don't need to be wiping our butts for us too
  10. I thought I was ready.......silly me,where's the fun in that! Whilst putting rain X on the screening lifted the wipers and noticed the n/s was loose......very loose. The only thing stopping the spindle being inside the car was the arm! Bit of fiddling about had the other spitfire relieved of its spindle and it's now sorted......(tried a herald one but the spindle is shorter.....shame as I have a few of them). Just means I'll need to buy one for the blue car later. Must make a list of what I've robbed.....this is the trouble with getting a back up car ready at the last minute! Just need to balance the carbs now.
  11. If that's the case I'd be checking the brakes too..... Did the mot man actually look at your car?
  12. Nice turn out of cars today, the standard of cars is great! Looking forward to the start now..... Good luck to all the crews still battling to get ready! So nice to see all the friendly faces, some I don't see from on rbr to the next but I count as mates none the less!
  13. Noticed one car with tyres older than the youngest drivers, mentioning no names though.........
  14. Also if you are on agreed value and someone else drives it on their policy you have no agreed value!
  15. I'll keep quiet at this point as the car I'm in is nowhere near ready and it's not mine.....
  16. Don't even ask what needs doing to our entry...... Soft top needs fitting, front end needs stripping as vertical links need inspecting and new wheel bearings minimum..... Halogen headlights and relays need fitting, few wiring issues.... Hole in floorpan very near accelerator ... Seats need mounts sorting and fitting. Head needs retorquing and oil change and anti freeze....gearbox oil level and diff level...... Think that's it...........

    Vitesse hood fitting

One of the jobs we need to address for the rbrr is fitting a hood .....the frame seems ok. It has an almost as new hood fitted but so badly it's a joke! Does anyone know where I might find some fitting instructions? I may just refit this one and ignore all the rivet holes that will be in the wrong places 😉
  18. I'm liking that John! Looking forward to a new build thread......please don't go to fast though as it makes me feel inferior 😀
  19. Just waiting for something else to kick us in the backside........ Rbrr vitesse is running again! Head gasket went, head skimmed and also needed new valves. New gasket fitted then found the heater system full of gooey antifreeze.......new heater valve fitted.....rear Union on inlet manifold corroded so badly on one pipe Nick decided to buy a new one, unbolting it the banjo bolt snapped fortunately a quick chat on the phone with Richard Brake and I knew how to try and get the snapped bit out( pushed a bolt into the hole and welded it all the way round, then simply unbolted it)......Nick ordered a new one......today the next door neighboured fell off his ladder and landed on Nicks vitesse cracking paint on the rear wing. I went round after work today to see the damage and the new parts had arrived......so all fitted and run up to temperature. All seems good as couldn't do this before, mot booked for Saturday so fingers crossed we are getting somewhere with it now.......unfortunately life keeps getting in the way so progress hasn't been as fast as ideal. We still need to fit a softtop just in case... Check diff and gearbox levels, grease rear trunnions, strip front links and hubs oh and the radiator overflow bottle needs locating somewhere does anyone have a picture of where it goes? Then we need to get some miles on it and retourqued the head!
  20. Sounds a bit like what can happen in the big saloons when the clutch fluid gets hot......
