After talking to Alan today we can rest assured that he won't be fitting a mercedes engine or buying an acclaim. He has in fact now got the engine the car should always have been fitted with......a nice low mileage 2.5 6 pot with an auto box. Perfect!

Who's got what to do for 2014?
Alex replied to AlanChatterton's topic in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)
Did 200 miles today delivering a tv for my 93 year old nan. Only issue that came to light was the electric fan failed to work.....worked Saturday for mot. Need to have a look at that, but it still didn't overheat despite a long delay on the m4. Temperature gauge didn't go about 3/4 and quickly returned to 1/2 once moving again. -

I swapped from green stuff to mintex 1144 the difference was incredible. Much more pedal feel and work from cold. Mintex get my vote.

I'd be reluctant to put silicone on mine in case I had to do any paint work in the future.

Got any spare plugs? If you've been just running it up and not driving it they may have drowned in petrol.....they don't like that.

Thanks everyone! Glenn I must confess one piston did fly across the garage :-)

I have a pair of brake calipers that require rebuild however I'm unable to get one piston out on each caliper. In both cases it's the inner piston that won't pop out(with compressed air). Any suggestions? No rush as the car is a long way off needing brakes anyway,I just thought I'd investigate ;D

Dave what year is your mk1? Pre face lift mk1's had thinner discs than post face lift cars. Post face lift have mk2 size discs and calipers.....

Try brasso liquid metal polish, normally works very well. Alex
