  1. Nick, I can't thank you enough! After another 90 minutes of 'contortionism', I've just found it. What on earth possessed Triumph to make a  fuse so inaccessible! I'd almost given up hope of ever finding the fuse when I spotted a red flex which had apparently been rubbing against something and was showing a tiny piece of bare wire.  I gently pulled this down to make space enough to wrap some red tape around it and, hey presto, the fuse holder came with it! Fuse now replaced and side/rear lights working again.  Presumably the bare wire was the cause of the fuse blowing.  I'm now having my well deserved cuppa before I go back and replace all the trim etc.
  2. Please can anyone help me locate the line fuse for the side/rear lights on my Vitesse Mk I. My workshop manual states - The line fuse is a component of the main harness.  It is positioned behind the facia panel adjacent to the left hand dash side panel.  To locate the line fuse when the unit is not visible carefully pull the brown/red and red wires adjacent to the harness "break out" point.  This action should draw the unit into view. I've been doing various contortions this afternoon looking under the dash but I'm blowed if I can find it.  Any tips welcome!
  3. We'd do it again but agree that June might be better as the event has always clashed with our summer holiday in previous years. By all means organise a survey.
  4. Of course I am responsible for having enough fuel - and the route was actually nearer 170 miles each day.   With all the low gear work, even if I'd filled my Vitesse at the petrol station just up the road from the start, I would not have risked covering that distance without another fill up.  I normally reckon to do 200 miles of "normal" motoring per tank.
  5. Whose photos?!?!?!?!  And I thought Janet was supposed to be navigating. Seriously though, Pete, between you you've captured the varying types of road very well - well done.
  6. A small suggestion for future events - in the "preamble page" of the route instructions, please include one or two suggestions for refuelling locations. On Saturday we filled up in Ingleton and, on Sunday, in Kirkby Stephen.  Had we not done so we might well have run out of petrol on the long sections which followed "up on t' moors".
  7. Just returned home after spending 3 nights with friends west of Penrith. Never having done this event before, Mary and I both thoroughly enjoyed it - some fantastic roads.  Even our Vitesse seemed to enjoy it as well because it's still in one piece after all that extra mileage before returning to base! We agree that OST needs to "pull its socks up".  I understand the problems they are/have been having but refusing to serve food after 7.45pm to residents on a Sunday is disgraceful. Has anyone any idea how a stage rally was allowed to use the same road as the Border Raiders event but in the opposite direction?  Will someone be informing the MSA? One small criticism of the event is that we expected to receive an entry list with names, car model & reg no. so that we could identify who's who.  Without this info we were unable to vote for the best car!
  8. So, having now washed & polished the Vitesse, I know who to blame if it rains!!!!
  9. Yes, Steve, quite possibly a year or so out. I wonder when the "4" was added at the front of Derby telephone numbers. But also note that the RAC listing only states Triumph "specialist" not "dealer". Further investigation warranted!
  10. [quote=If you have any more information or recollections about any of the Standard Triumph dealers in and around Derby including either Sanderson & Holmes Ltd or the Light Car Co of Derby please get in touch. I would like to see photos of window stickers, dealer badges or sill plates etc. Steve, I assume you're aware of this site but in case not:-  http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Light_Car_Co The bottom jpg on that page shows that Light Car Co was a Triumph specialist at the Derwent Street address in 1950 with same phone number less the first digit!
  11. All sorted - I found another wire that I'd failed to connect to the ignition switch!
  12. I have changed the ignition switch on my Vitesse and thought I'd got the various wires back on the correct terminals but . . . ! Before changing this switch the overdrive worked ok but, since doing it, all the electrics are ok except for the overdrive.  I feel that the fault must be down to me putting a wire on an incorrect terminal. So, in the hope of saving hours of trial and error, has anyone some idea as to which connections I may have transposed, please.   (I do have a workshop manual with wiring diagram.)
  13. Matt, I think you need part no.606241 in which case Mick Dolphin is showing one available in his list. You will need to contact him first to check that he still has one as his latest list is dated Jan 2016. Good luck, Pete
  14. One has appeared on eBay today as a "Buy it Now". See item #291791330736
  15. Might be of interest to readers of this thread? I was at the Stony Stratford car show on New Year's Day where a 1970 MkII Vitesse was on display together with its original invoice from Lamb's (Romford) Ltd of Hornchurch. I've uploaded photos of both car and invoice.  To view - Click on "Events" then "Photo Album" and enter "Stony Stratford" in the Search box.
  16. My Vitesse came from there too. I found this one day when I was "surfin't'internet"
  17. Enter code: 3CD3F3EC5A and you should get 5% discount. Pete
  18. Martin, I've just measured the rad on my MkI saloon:- 17" wide x 19.5" high x 3" thick. Hope this helps.
  19. I have never used the clutch when switching out of overdrive in my 1967 MkI Vitesse. I happen to have 2 different versions of the "Triumph 2 Litre Vitesse Owner's Handbook". For info, I attach copies of the relevant page from each copy showing the advice for Overdrive Unit use. You will see that maximum disengagement speeds are shown for 3.89 diff in the 1st edition which is dated 1966. In the later edition, undated and published by Brooklands/Heritage, these mph recommendations are replaced by a maximum disengagement speed of 4,800 rpm. All other wording is exactly the same in both versions.
