  1. Well, i got my new torque convertor. But sadly, the gearbox got away from me off the stand and hit the floor. Bellhousing now bust and no spare!!!! So i need an auto bellhousing, but ive no idea if its a 35 or 65, I cant identify it from the gearbox, because its a ZF. Help!!. Anyone have a bellhousing spare? Im near Milton keynes. Not sure if the torque convertor has survived, but i cant know that unless i get it back together.
  2. Well things are suddenly not looking so good After much investigation, a driveline vibration turns out to be the torque convertor, but, only when in lock up. Its bad too. Bellhousing becomes a blur at 90mph! So out with the gearbox yet again. Really starting to run out of time.
  3. What stagNL said. Pull the pump up with as much force as you can with your hand should be about right. Its not the greatest design!
  4. We would use DPD for that. They have a secondary service for boxes up to 3m long and up to 99kg. If my memory serves it was just under £20.00. Obviously our price is based on a resonable volume, but worth a call? Also, have you tried Parcel monkey. Guessing your remaining dims brings it in at £34.75 via parcel force.
  5. Well ive fitted a spoiler to the Stag, so everything will be OK now! Most important you know........................................
  6. Excellent Hope your gearbox job goes better than mine! 3 times in and out now, but fingers crossed, this ones holding up. Now just trying t do all the niggles. And i need some decent headlamps. Any suggestions?
  7. I am. Booked 14.00 both ways. Why is everyone on the 12.00 out?

Nick_Jones wrote:My experience with both Vitesse and PI (both of which run standard cams) was that the mechanical curve (centrifugal advance) as originally calculated by  Triumph was about right.  Even on the rolling road we could find little gain.  This would be a different story for modified engines.  If you've had to retard the basic timing to allow for modern fuel you may have to take a degree or two out.  I didn't, even with 95 UL, probably because the electronic system is more accurate/consistent and the addition of injection means I get even fuelling for all cylinders. Where we could gain was at part throttle (and this is why I say the 2D device you originally posted the link to is not worth having as you can't fiddle with this).  When fiddling with the timing on the PI on a rolling road we picked up 20% torque in some areas, making it feel really responsive and allowing quite fast cruising on just a whiff of throttle and consistent 30 - 35 mpg. Nick Maybe im not reading it right, but what system was this with? I need to do this with my stag.
  9. Im with hogie here. This is almost certainly a ballast issue. Just bypass it for now just to prove and stick full volts to the coil.

  12. Having just caught up with this thread again, i think we are getting way to hung up on the details. Ive done many RBRR's and finished all of them. Thats the bit thats important to me. I dont really care if someone rolls in an hour late and gets a mug. They took part and they got there. If they had to miss a stop becuase they had a lot of trouble. Never mind. They know they cut it out. I cut out wales (before there was a control point there) on one as due to issues we were so far behind, that had we not done so, we might as well have retired and driven home. Which according to some here is what we should have done. To me, doing what we did was far more in the spirit of the event. The personal satisfaction of achieving it is why i do it. As far as im concerned, do whatever it takes to comply with the MSA, it doesn't really matter to me. Just keep running the event. My only observation where i do think we have gone backwards a little, (and i know im in the minority here) is the adding of mileage over time, mostly wales. This has stepped up the pace over what it once was, increasing the chances of lateness. I used to do a lot more mending of other peoples broken cars than i do now. But then we now have mobile phones, so helping out and finding parts is much easier than it once was, i.e. hoping someone would appear out of the murk, stop and have what you needed on board!
  13. Tim, it almost certainly will be the same car. Great i have another. Not so great that its even more stuff for me to do. On the upside, it drives, which is more than can be said for the others! And i cant think of a better car to do the 10 countries in.
  14. My 2000 estate has a BW65. This is WAY better. Sadly its not oil related. The previous owner has had a good go of checking the obvious. Once its working, its just fine. Car came with a spare and i have 2 more, so am sure it will get sorted out when i can spend some time on it.
  15. Maybe not as nice as it looks though. Stag V8 with ZF 4 speed auto. Monarch Holley conversion, Monarch (i think) tubular manifolds, chris witor lowering springs, Rays lightweight wheels, and bucket loads of new bits. Drives quite nice, though like any car, there is plenty still left to do. Not least the gearbox which doesn't work for 10 mins after a cold start!
  16. Pics and info to follow when i get it back and realise what ive done............................
  17. Fix the Sprint..................... or fix the estate. Or just buy a stag. I think i'll just buy a stag!
  18. Its just luck on a sunday evening going into london. We ran into the back of the queue between junction 5 and 4, so came of at 4 and just picked up the A404 and stayed on it until it meets the M25 at Ricky. Worked welland arrived at earliest arrival time. Back in the day, we never came anywhere near didcot and came up the M3. So less miles, but the M3 is not much use either!
  19. A big thanks from me to the organisers for another great event. Despite being "away" from triumph things for a while, it was just like it always was with lots of familiar faces. Also, thanks to Nigel and Jason for putting up with me for 48 hours as their 3rd driver. Now, better get buying a stag for the 10 countries.........................................
