As you say it's a very good idea to have a rear fog light. On my TR4 I have converted the offside reversing light to be a fog light using a red LED bulb and retaining white lens. The nearside remains a reversing light and changing it to a LED means the light at the back is better than it was with incandescent bulbs when reversing. Dave

I think the answer to your question is that it will depend on the product you are going to use and you need to follow their instructions What follows is taken from the Sika product data sheet for the paint I used - Substrate Preparation Concrete substrates must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment to remove cement laitance and achieve an open textured surface. Weak concrete must be removed and surface defects such as blowholes and voids must be fully exposed. Repairs to the substrate, filling of blowholes/voids and surface levelling can be carried out using appropriate products from the Sikafloor ® , SikaDur ® and SikaGard ® range of materials. The concrete or screed substrate has to be primed or levelled in order to achieve an even surface. High spots must be removed by e.g. grinding. All dust, loose and friable material must be completely removed from all surfaces before application of the product, preferably by brush and/or vacuum. I had my builders run a grinder over the surface when I was ready for painting it. I then brushed and hoovered the dust, letting the particles settle out before repeating several times.

As has been said earlier you do need to let it dry out fully and prepare the surface carefully. I used Sika floor epoxy resin floor paint for my new garage five years ago and I am still very pleased with it. Applying an epoxy paint can be more effort than a tin of garage paint from you local hardware store, the one I used came in two parts which needed mixing and you then have limited time to apply it before it starts to set.

Have a good look around at several before you buy. I saw a couple of red TR4s at Beaulieu Garage just before Christmas and they've still got them, one's 4 and the other a 4a. A test drive would give you the chance to see which version you prefer, live axle 4 or independent 4a. Dave

They say offers individuals, clubs and those organising events within the historic vehicle community a quick and convenient way to carbon balance their emissions thanks to the planting of new woodland here in the UK. I would have thought it well worth considering for CT events and members. Dave

Hi Callan I can certainly recommend that you lighten the flywheel, you can take about half the weight off. I have a 4kg one on my TR6 and it certainly spins up much faster and I don't seem to be suffering from lumpy tick over that some report. Similarly I recommend that you think about CV driveshafts, not cheap but well worth the investment and easily capable of handling your predicted BHPs. Dave

Tim You could consider fitting a laminated and heated one, they solve the problem with the poor heater and demister. Also don't forget to renew the windscreen rubber having seen your photos from RBBR with your Heath-Robinson drainage channels!

Hi Nuala I've got surplus threaded bar and nuts you can have, from an unsuccessful attempt at making a spring compressor. If not I've also got a set of different sized hole cutters if you want to borrow them. Having tried Clive's method I wouldn't recommend it, spent days trying to get rid of the smell of burnt rubber! Nuala According to Graham Robson's 'Works Triumphs in detail' the only works Herald on the 1961 Monte was Ian 'Tiny' Lewis's Herald Coupe YRW 266. He started from Glasgow so would have called in at Barnby Moor, and of the 63 Scottish starters and 16 finishers he was the only one to reach Monte Carlo without time penalties and finished 25th overall. The cars were red and white and had the three additional lamps you can see in the photo, two below bumper and one in the centre of the grille. A year earlier Ian Lewis drove another of the works Herald Coupes (YRW268) on the Monte and finished 57th overall. Dave

H1 Jim, I don't have any holes for cooling in the headlight bowl on the TR6, and they've never let me down even in darkest Wales on the RBRR. Mine do have a large metal (aluminium alloy?) heatsink fitted to the them, similar to https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collections/12-volt-collection/products/latest-led-headlights-h4-philips-z-es-hi-lo-beam-conversion-9-32v. If I had put cooling holes in the head light bowl it would mean that road crud would be getting into the headlight bowl as they are exposed to the front wheels. Dave

Hi I've fitted LEDs to both my TRs and the 2.5 when I had it, and the only thing I had to do to the bowls was to open up the existing hole for the lead to pass through. The LED units have a water proof connector on the lead from the bulb which is too big to pass through the existing hole and join with the lead from the control box. Both of the companies mentioned earlier in the string have a 'warm white' option for the LEDs as well as the original 'white' white.
