I do like the wooden wheels, I had a 1/2 wood 1/2 leather one in my old Jaguar and that was lovely. The wheel I have to be fitted is this one: http://www.mountneyltd.com/product/classic-woodrim-steering-wheel it was bought for me as a present a few years ago. Ideally I would have liked a thicker rimmed one, but I'm not going to smack a gift horse in the mouth am I? :) Maybe in a few years I'll upgrade to a thicker rim. The Photograph was taken towards the end of the rebuild in 2006, I can't take any credit for the Dashboard or Door Cappings, they were refurbished by Chapman & Cliff, Ex Rolls Royce guys. Refinished the Steering wheel myself though using plenty of Elbow grease, Solvol Autosol on the Alloy parts and numerous coats of varnish with carefull rubbing down between the coats on the wood, the wheel only cost a £1 too ;).
  3. Original Vitesse wheel gets my Vote, with a new Leather cover fitted though. I've got a Formula type Wooden steering wheel on my Vitesse, its the same Dish as the Standard wheel. It looks good but I would prefer a thicker rim, it doesn't feel as nice as the Original Leather rimmed wheel. I'd like a Mk1 GT6 Wheel of a similar style but with a thick leather rim for my Car but they are very rare and seem to fetch top Dollar on E-bay :B

  5. Don Hoods in Birmingham gets my vote.
  6. peterhlewis wrote:if not started yet when wipers are off the spindles stick a card pointer on pointing to 12 oclock,, the secret is to refit the spiral rack so the gears in the wheels boxes on the screen panel are worked on the opposite teeth to the well used ones , might need to refit the rack a few times to get the pointers downwards if you remove the motor gearbox plate you can turn the rack over and again reverse the worn side, make sure all the tube clamps are tight, and grease the rack well on refit.  all  this will reduce some of the slop in the wipers sweep. Pete Thats if someones not done this already!! ;D
  7. Andy I know a Guy called Tony Lindsey Dean (You may have heard of him from Kingston Sport cars back in the 90's?) has been selling rebuilt Rotoflex Halfshafts recently on e-bay, I don't know if he has anymore available though? He's based in Bury St Edmunds and goes under the e-bay name of - t4sport6. I have a couple of spare Rebuilt rear assemblies but need them as spares for my Car. It is a bit of a lottery buying secondhand half shafts, chances are they've been apart before and have been split without using the proper tools :B
  8. I can recommend the Moulded Carpets from Newton Commercial, they are not the cheapest out there but will fit properly and last! For the best deal get them from one of the Triumph traders, i.e. Canley Classics, James Paddock, T.D.Fitchetts, etc. I fitted them to my Vitesse in 2006 and they still look good as new now :) You will need to remove the front seats and some of the trim boards in the front footwell. I would also recommend a rub down, rust proof and re-paint of the floor before fitting them and make sure you have no water leaks into the interior via faulty window or door seals? I fitted additional Sound deadening & Underfelt to my car before fitting the carpets to try and make things a bit quieter? Regards Gary
  9. I've seen an improvised spring compressor made of two herald rims & two lengths of M10 or M12 Threaded Rod/washers/nuts? If you do make one, make sure its up to the job, there is a lot of force in compressed springs ??) If you're not sure what you are doing buy or borrow a proper tool made for Triumph Springs, not the clamp type that wrap over the coils.
  10. Here's a Shadow Blue Seat out of my Vitesse Mk2? Purchased from Canley Classics and made by Newton Commercial, excellent quality and fit :) Regards Gary
  11. Chic hasn't got a N.O.S. Spring for a Mk2 Vitesse :o He's only got secondhand, but don't want to go through the pain of swapping for a secondhand one to find out is the same ??) Will keep looking, have e-mailed Mick Dolphin and will ring TD Fitchetts.

  13. Richard_B wrote:Have you tried Canley Classics? Alternatively these have a good reputation; http://www.ilondon.co.uk/profile/620699/Holloway/Brost-Forge-Motorspring-Service/ I haven't tried Canley's, but have had stuff off them previously and been happy with the quality of the majority of it. Of the two springs I have tried, neither where from Canley's? I may give them a call and see if they are made by the Original supplier, I know Dave tries to use original suppliers if they ae still trading? I suppose the chances of getting an original N.O.S Spring are near on impossible :-/
  14. Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of original quality rear springs for a Mk2 Rotoflex suspension Vitesse. I presume the trade suppliers all purchase their springs from the same manufacturer, I have fitted two rear springs since the rebuild of my Vitesse (completed 2006), both purchased from reputable Triumph Parts suppliers and have not been impressed with the quality of either :( The last one was fitted just over a year ago and has sagged considerably even though I've only done a couple of thousand miles? It bottoms out, even when lightly loaded! I'm tempted to try and find and on original secondhand spring and have it refurbished, anyone had this done? Its getting very frustrating, because its not like its an easy job to change one and the springs are around £150+ now :B Any advice or help would be appreciated, if anyone has a secondhand Vitesse Mk2 spring in reasonable condition and is based in the midlands area then please send me a PM. Thanks Gary
  15. Ive had a quick look ay my Sis's friends Early MX5, the seals seem to be a similar shape and they look like they fit into similar Aly Channels :) Anyone tried the MX5 Seals on a Herald/Viteese?
  16. I was thinking of one of the circular profile seals that are hollow, if I can get one about 25-30mm diameter that will fit into the channel then it should be big enough to compress and also be big enough to give some movement but stay compressed against the window when you get the inevitable Herald/Vitesse Chassis flex ;D I suppose I need to keep trawling the Internet, maybe E-bay might provide a solution ;) Either that or a walk round a scapyard with a section of the aly channel to see if I can find something off a car that fits the channel :-/
  17. I suppose the packing out of the seal retainers is an option, it's where the window curves where I have a gap, its worse on the pasenger side, I don't want the window hitting the aly channel when i shut the door though ??) I don't think the actual profile of the original seal helps, they could do with being larger and circular in section I reckon, like some of the reproduction door seals that clip on the bulkheads to seal the main frame of the door? If you could get seals that fit in to the aly channel like the standard type, but of a larger circular profile then you don't have to get the window lined up with the hood frame exactly? I've look on the Web for alternate seals, but no one seems to manufacture a suitable larger circular section seal which will clip into the aly channel :( Never had chance to study an MX5, MGF or BMW Z3/Z4 to see how they seal the windows to the hood?
  18. Ever since the completion of the rebuild of my Vitesse back in 2006 I've never been completely happy with the seal between the side windows and the Hood frame? I've used new original style Aluminium channels, with the proper profile new seals, but found it impossible to get the profile of the window to match exactly with the seal to provide a water/draught resistant seal no mater how much I try and adjust the hood frame? Has anybody else tried to fit any different seals of a larger profile to the aluminium channels? Surely Modern cars like the MX5, MGF & Z3/4 BMW's don't have this problem! Anyone fitted alternative seals which do what they are supposed to and keep the draughts/water out? It would be nice to travel in a bit more comfort with the roof up, as it looks like the chances of hood down motoring this year are going to be limited! :B
  19. Be carefull with some of the reproduction door seals, a lot of them are not the same shape/profile of the original seals, which are a 'j' shape? As far as I'm aware the only supplier who sells seals similar to the originals is Bill at Rarebits 4 classics? I have some fitted on my Vitesse convertible and thay are excellent quality, keep the water out and you don't have to slam the doors to hard! (Unlike some of the other types :-/) Fitting is straight forward, they just push on to the edging around the 'A' post, Treadplate and 'B' Post, be carefull to make sure they are pushed on in all the corners and don't cut them too short! ??)

  21. Why not buy a brake pipe kit off one of the usual Suppliers, I'm sure Canleys do one? These should come all made to the correct lengths with the correct male/female unions fitted? Regards Gary

    14" wheels

You also need the correct Profile Tyres, 175/65 sounds about right?

They're different, the Vitesse ones are longer and shallower? I suspect you can't fit Herald ones to a Vitesse, but I've never tried? Reckon the one on the Inlet/Exhaust side would foul the Carbs & Air Cleaner :-/ Regards Gary

  25. They do turn up at Autojumbles, thats where I got some original ones from. I reckon those might be Dolomite/2000 door switchs?
