  1. It looks like your manifold is incorrectly manufactured? All I can suggest is you contact Rimmers to discuss, they're a reputable company so should be able to exchange for a manifold that fits. It looks like another case of poor quality parts :-/ Regards Gary
  2. I've no personel experiecne of one of these Manifolds but have read that the 6 into 3 into 1 Manifold flows much better and gives increases in power and torque when used in conjunction with other modifications, i.e. modified cylinder head, larger Carbs and performance camshaft. It really depends on how far you want to go and how much you have to spend with tuning? Do a search on this site there is pleanty of good advice and I'm sure someone on this site will have used one of these manifolds? Regards Gary
  3. Alan I didn't use the Large flange type on my Vitesse, but they may be better if the bumper trims have enlarged fixing holes? Gary
  4. Yes, 3/16th of an Inch diameter Rivets. Sorry for the confusion :B I'm not sure of the flange size though, don't know if you can get different flange sizes on pop rivets?
  5. Alan 3/16th of an Inch rivets are the correct size, be carefull when you use the rivet gun, it can jump and catch the trim when they pop off ??)
  6. Yes she made a cracking job :) All credit to Newton Commercial though too, who supplied the covers? Might go for a run out to Newark Autojumble next Sunday and travel in comfort if the weather co-operates! ;D All the Best Gary
  7. Hi Alan I made some of these up for my Vitesse, the Valance I bought off TD Fitchets didn't have any fitted :-/ Use some 1.5-2mm thick steel they need to be about 100mm long by 25mm wide, just form them into a Top Hat section to suit the position of the Bumper Trim. U can offer up the bumper trim to get them in the right position. then spot or tack weld in place (Or self tap if you can't weld like me ;D) Then paint. rust proof the valance/bracket and rivet in place the bumper trim, jobs a gud un ;) P.S. Got the MGF Seats fitted, they're marvellous :) Regards Gary
  8. The 'P' Seals run to just above the Door Light switch? They are tucked behind the door seal on the windsscreen surround and drop to above the Light switch glued in place. I don't think the earlier Heralds had them fitted but the 13/60's and later Vitesse's certainly did. Regards Gary

    Conv Roof Question

When I rebuilt my Late  Mk2 Vitesse Hood frame the Header Rail was covered in a Black Vinyl covering similar to the Door Cards, I don't know if this was original but it had been on a long time! I used some standard black Vinyl cut to suit and used spray on Glue to fix it. I obtained the webbing that holds the hood sections apart from a local Shop that re-trimmed domestic Sofa's & seats, they had it on a roll and cut me sufficent off, again this was Black finish. With regards to the Clips for the Rear Stainless finisher above the Rear window I got these from TD Fitchetts? Regards Gary
  11. Not sure if they are handed or not, here's a link to Canley Classics for fixing details, it states a couple of 1/4 UNF X 3/4 Set Screws, I also thought there where a couple of Self Tappers and a 1/8th rivet each side, but it's a long time since I stripped my Vitesse Saloon down ::). http://www.canleyclassics.com/?xhtml=xhtml/diagram/herald1200roof.html&xhtmlcatalogue=xhtml/catalogue/herald1200.html&category=bodyandfittings&xsl=diagram.xsl

    Carpets

Just had a look on the Newton Comercial Web site and they list the same Part Number for Saloon/Convertible, although the 'B' Post area is different between the two models? I must admit I thought the Saloon had a bit more leg room at the the rear? :-/ I have a set of the Newton Moulded carpets in my Convertible, purchased from Canleys and they are an excellent fit :) I can't remember having to do any trimming of the rear carpet section? Just be carefull with the cut out for the Hand Brake, I ended up cutting the hole a bit to large ??) and had to make up a hardboard/Vinyl cover to finish it off :(. Regards Gary
  13. I've thought about doing this myself with my Vitesse Overdrive Box? I have a mate who owns a Big Healey with an Overdrive Gearbox and I know he runs Engine Oil in that, not sure what grade but he reckons he gets better gear changes and its what was recommended by BMC? I suppose TriumpH must have specified EP90 for a reason, some of the Small Chassis Triumphs don't have the strongest of gearboxes and EP Oil may not breakdown like Engine Oil? (P.S. Have you tidyed that bench yet Cookie? ;))

Mind you, Encom, if I'd had your drawing then it would have saved several trial and error fittings before the final bolting down! ;) Yes can't wait to get the Shadow Blue covers back for mine, so I can get them on and the seats back in the Car :) It's been off the road for well over a Month now :(, I'm missing driving the Car, although the weathers not to clever at the moment. Pictures to follow when fitted.
  15. 912 wrote:At last I've managed to obtain a pair of MGF seats for my Vitesse saloon.  As I understand it, from previous messages on this subject, I need to remove the runners before welding plates to the seat frames to be able to bolt onto the existing Vitesse runners. However I've spent a couple of unsuccessful hours this afternoon with a hammer, chisel and drill trying to work out how to separate the seat frames from their runners! Please could someone tell me how they come apart!!!!     :-/ An Angle grinder is the way to go with the correct disc, as stated make sure you protect the seats and your Hands & Eyes!! The brackets are fitted with a sort of button type rivet, you need to grind the heads off, the rear bracket are also welded so these again needs carefully grinding off. Because I cannot weld, I have trial fitted mine using 41x21 Unistrut Box section Channel and some of the original Triumph thick Spacer washers, the seat runner is a very tight against the transmission tunnel and you will have to get rid of the Seat Belt brackets/tensioners, when fitted they didn't seem to be to high for me, I'm 5' 8" but may be if your taller. I had some damage to one of the rear brackets on the Passengger seat, the person who removed the seats had twisted the runner slightly at the rear where the Bracket attaches :(, so I had to cut it off slightly. I then had the problem of the Ball bearings and one of the nylon strip/guides that the runners slide on falling out ??). this is because there was a stop formed within the piece of the runner that I had cut off! I had to push them back in place and drill and tap a screw into the corner of the runner to stop them falling out again! Welding the Box Section or Steel plates to the MGF Runners or the Triumph Runners if you prefer is the best solution. The MGF Seat runners however adjust far smoother than the Triumph runners, presumably due to the Ball Bearings and Nylon Guide strips. All I need to do now is get them re-trimmed in Blue to match the rest of my interior :-/

    Horn Adjustment

If you google 'How To adjust Lucas Horns', instruction manuals are available to view on fault finding, set up and adjusting (I don't know how to set up a link :B)? The Centre Screw & Lock ring adjusts the Tone and the Small Bolt head adjusts the Points, you need to follow the set up procedure though. Gary Manage to copy and paste the link :) http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=7&cad=rja&ved=0CFMQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ahcso.com%2Fpdf%2Fk_6_horns_windtone_9h.pdf&ei=Aw1EUvPdMq6d7gb13YH4DA&usg=AFQjCNE8ivckwfbM4A28uPkhH2j58P73Tg&bvm=bv.53217764,d.bGE

    Diff

Try your local Wilkinson Store, they sell 1 Litre Comma GL4 EP80/90 at £3.50 a Bottle ;) I find Halfords tend to be expensive :-/, but have good choice and stock levels for automotive accessories?
  18. It brings back very fond memory's of my first car, a similar Conifer Green 1200 Saloon MVC 371G but with a Black interior. I bought it in the Summer of 1981, not around anymore unfortunetly    The Red interior looks great with the Conifer Green exterior

    Carpets for 1200

Odd sections do turn up on E-bay occasionally? You never know there might be the odd piece or two at the TSSC International at Stafford this weekend in the Autojumble or with one of the traders? If it's Black your after then this was probably the most common colour, so your chances will be higher than some of the other colours.
  20. I've got an early 3 Rail Doly 1850 box with J Type Overdrive in my Vitesse, its got the standard 3.89 Ratio Diff, 13" Wheels with 175/70 tyres. It's spot on whe you go past the 30 Limit warning signs that tell you your speed and to SLOW DOWN! ;D I've not got a Sat Nav so don't know if it's really spot on though? A mate who owned my car previously and fitted the O/D Box back in the mid 80's was told to use the Brown coloured drive gear with 18 teeth (NKC49 I think is the Part number?) You can get other gears of different colours and teeth quantities, the Grey coloured one has 20 teeth, not sure which one you will need with a 4.11 Diff though? :-/ Gary
  21. There is an Earth strap off one of the lower timing cover bolts to the chassis on the Vitesse, so I suspect the Gt6 will be similar? Regards Gary

  23. Anyone with Stags seats fitted or will I have to get some MGF Seats?
  24. Dougthompson wrote:But why ??? They weigh a ton there must be a better alternative :) MX5 or MGF Fit, you can't get them trimmed in light blue though? :-/ If I can get a pair of Shadow Blue Stag seats in good condition and they fit Ok then problem solved :) I owned a Stag in the late 80's early 90's so know they are comfy ;).
  25. The later Mk2 Stag Seats are not as wide at the top as the earlier seats without the Headrests. I've seen some fitted in a Vitesse Convertible, but don't know what modifications where necesary to fit them? Anyone got them fitted in a Herald or Vitesse Convertible?
