    Trim Clips

http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-51-clips.aspx Link to Woolies who supply the correct trim clips for Herald/Vitesse door cards
  2. A mate had a Talbot Horizon in the early 80's. It was low Mileage, a horrible orangey/yellow colour and that sounded like a bag of Spanners Presumably the same Engine?
  3. Link below to an Image of a 1600 Engine courtesy of Canley Classics website, note the large Crankcase breather around the Engine Oil filter housing Item 64 which I believe is unique to the Vitesse 6 and one way to identify the 1600 Engine? http://www.canleyclassics.com/triumph-vitesse-1600-engine
  4. Moss do a Good range of TR Parts? https://www.google.co.uk/url?s.....vm=bv.98197061,d.ZGU
  5. I take it you've reset the Valve Clearances?
  6. The Koni dampers that are for the front of a Classic Mini are part number 80-1717 with a open length of 296mm and a closed length of 218mm which are supposed to be the correct open/closed lengths when using the Rotoflex chassis brackets? There is a thread on the Herald/Vitesse section, if you do a search under Koni? I fitted them to my Vitesse and never had any bottoming out even with 4 adults in the car, there are mods needed to the bushing though I'd check the open and closed lengths eye to eye of your shocks?
  7. Check the Voltage rating it could be a 6V rated Ballast resistor type Coil The voltage rating should be stamped on the Coil somewhere?

    rocker cover colour

That makes sense Bill, 13/60 Introduced in 1967 I think? Vitesse MK2 introduced in October 1968 so whats the betting all 13/60's after this date had Silver Rocker Covers

    rocker cover colour

Just had a read of my Mike Costigan book The Complete guide to the herald and Vitesse and on page 71 it states with reference to the 13/60:- The Engine was painted Black but the rocker cover was now painted silver.

    rocker cover colour

I would suspect a 13/60 Rocker cover would be Silver originally like a Mk2 Vitesse of the same period? I've had a look at my Herald/Vitesse book by Graham Robson and it shows a picture of a 13/60 Engine Bay? Only trouble is the Picture is in Black & White!!
  11. I believe the Mk1 GT6 Was fitted with the same Alloy Spoked wheel as the Uk model? The Mk2 or GT6+ in the USA had a different padded wheel similar if not the same as the TR5?
  12. Spring lifter only needed for the Rotoflex rear suspension on Vitesse Mk2, GT6 Mk2 and Early GT Mk3.
  13. I reckon you ought to raise the value of your Agreed Value insurance Alan it looks a cracker! I've been out looking at a TR250 and a TR5 yesterday and there values have shot up, similar to certain other classics Sporty Mk1 Ford Escorts and early Mini's to give two examples so why shouldn't the Herald & Vitesse rise in value too? Surely the Agreed Value insurance should be enough to cover the cost of getting one in similar condition should the worst happen I reckon you would need to spend far more than £8K on a poor Herald to bring it up to that standard?
  14. The leaf spring on a Rotoflex Vitesse has quite an arc on it, see attached Picture? The Eye to Eye dimensions of a Mk2 Vitesse 11 Leaf spring is 1012mm Give or a take a couple of mm. The height with it resting on a flat floor in it's normal horizontal position is 165mm from the centre of the bottom leaf to the floor. The GT6 Rotoflex Spring has 7 Leaf's I think, but the dimensions given above should be similar, there was a chart posted on here with all the various Spring ratings and sizes, you may find it if you search? Regards Gary
  15. Yes that certainly looks like Royal Blue to me. If you still have the Commision Plate fitted on the nearside front bulkhead it will have the Paint code number 56 stamped on it and also the Trim number too, 11 for black, 12 for Tan (I think?) etc, your code should be 27 for Shadow Blue by the looks of the Back Seat?
  16. Weird? What's brought that on, has Stirling Moss took it for a Test Drive ;D?
  17. This is my recently sold Royal Blue Vitesse  :'(
  18. This particular dealer seems to list a lot really nice top dollar small chassis Triumphs, have a look at the home page and you can see a selection of what they have had for sale previously? How about a couple of early fully restored Mk2 Spitfires for £17K and £19.5K, dunno if they get near the asking price or not though. Make no doubt about it prices of all Classic have gone up due in no small part to all the Classic Car shows over the past few years, I reckon? 1. The Love of Cars 2. The Classic Car show. 3. Car S.O.S. 4. Wheeler Dealers, Etc have all raised the Profile and prices of Classics  :-/ It's good in some ways because you can justify spending more on restoration work with the realistic hope of getting some of it back.
  19. Try Mark at Jigsaw, he's the man who know's about the Le Man's Spitfires? He should be able to help. http://www.jigsawracingservices.co.uk/
  20. Weird? Apparently the Herald got it's name from Alick Dicks (Standard Triumph MD of the Late 50's) Boat? Using the Glass shows good Improvisation too ;D More of a Triumph than an Amphicar is? :X
  21. Thats the One Steve, cheers ;) A fascinating read, all explained thanks to Mr Alf Welch ;D Marvellous!
  22. Not a lot! On my first Vitesse I made the mistake of putting the Front Jubilee Clip with the Screw bit at the Top, ended up with a slight ding in the bonnet :( You can raise the rear cones a bit to raise the bonnet slightly, trouble is it might put the Stainless steel body strips out of alignment? If you check your engine mounts you may have some spacer shims between the Rubber Mounts and the Engine Brackets, removing one each side may help but watch the Sump on the Steering Rack!! ??)
  23. Trial fitting may try your patience ;D Start with the Front Tub, Then Rear tub Loose, Doors then finally the Bonnet. If you've done a lot of bodywork repairs then prepare to have fun, not! I used no end of Stainless Steel repair washers on the Front tub rear body mounts to tilt the tub to ensure the quarter lights didn't catch the Windscreen surround :-/ There is a link on Steve Weblins blog I reckon to the original Factory Instructions for body fitting and adjustments, well worth a read before you start?
  24. 2191 wrote:Replaced both my dampers at the same time. New trunnions too. Same on both sides - both bump stops are being crushed. Dave With the Car jacked up this is normal, also if you only have a rolling chassis it will do this, mine did? When you drive it the wheels should settle to give around 1 or 2 degree's positive camber and be off the bump stops? Gary.
