  1. Andy It sounds like the Caged Nut is spinning inside the Over-rider ??) a common problem after 40 odd years :-/ I presume it's the lower bolt that goes through the long tube, this one gets more road crap thrown up at it! I've had this happen on one of my Heralds, try giving the Captive nut a good soaking in penetrating oil, leave for a bit then give it some more. I reckon I got the long bolt out by wedging the captive nut in place with a long screwdriver while carefully undoing the bolt? If not, carefull use of an Angle grinder to grind the head of the bolt off will do it, if you can get access that is, I know it's a bit restricted in the corner of the boot :( Regards Gary
  2. I've been after a two piece boss kit for a Formula Woodrimmed wheel for ages! I'm not familiar with 3D Printers, how do you replicate the Splined part of the Boss that fits on the the Steering column? Gary
  3. 11 pints for the cooling system, presumably including the heater matrix? Cetainly a good idea to fill with plain water first, you can drain it all off and give the system a bit of a flush, then refill with around three and half pints of antifreeze. The blue type antifreeze is best and soft water (rain water) is supposed to help too.
  4. To do a proper job and make sure everything is sound (Body mounts, hidden Chassis area's, etc) you really need the body tubs off the Chassis? Trouble is, as stated it will end up taking far longer and costing loads more than you think! (Tell me how I know :B) However you will end up knowing there are no hidden area's of rot and have a better Car, that if repaired and painted/Rust proofed properly will last :) (PS It looks like Beans and his family like Icecream for pudding!! ;D ;D)
  5. I don't know if Birmingham is classed as a reasonable Distance but I have had dealings with the Don Hood company based in Erdington and have been happy with the Quality of the Mohair Hoods they supply? A mate also had a Vinyl hood fitted to his 13/60 a few years ago and they made a super job.

  7. Another try with the Link to the Trim Clip tool as per the Rimmers site?

  9. Correct front dampers for the Herald/Vitesse/Spitfire/GT6 (According to the Koni website?). Have a pair fitted on my Vitesse, on the road in 2006. They're still going strong and working well, they have an excellent reputation for quality and have been going for years. Only adjustable off the car though before fitting to the front springs :-/ Got a pair of Koni's to fit to the rear of my Mk2 Vitesse when I can find time?
  10. They are a pain to fit, some of the clips you get these days are a bit of a tight fit! This is the Tool you can buy, but not difficult to make either?

  12. I suspect none of the Rivets are standard? My Car's a Mk2, wihich has a different Grille, but no Rivets on my Car, although there are 3 vertical bars to hold the Mk2 Grille. It may be you may have a Mk2 Bonnet, with the vertical Bars removed and fitted with a Mk1 Grille? Regards Gary

    Chrome Strip Removal

Hi Keith Yes you are correct, the side Stainless steel finishers push on to circular Button shaped clips. Carefull use of a flat widish tool adjacent to the button (A wall paper stripper should do it) should ease them off, be careful not to dent the panelwork or bend the side finisher though. On the Vitesse the rearmost short rear wing trim clip is slightly different, and may come away with the Stainless Trim. Also the front wing one is slotted under the bonnet corner piece, so it's best to remove the front bonnet trim first, then the corner pieces (a very small self tapping screw holds this on from underneath originally?) then remove the side trim. I would drill out the old button clips with a 1/8" drill bit too, if they're ok you can re-fix them with a new 1/8" rivet after the respray, although new clips are available but they are expensive for what they are :-/ Regards Gary

    Choke Cable

The original Choke Knob on the Mk2 Vitesse is 'T' Shaped (like the 13/60 Heralds) and is actually moulded onto the cable?   Rimmers show it as Part Number - 143136 and state No Longer Available :-/ I have a feeling the 13/60 Choke Cable/Knob is to short for a Vitesse but I may be wrong (Rimmers show the same Part Number for the 13/60 Choke Cable?) It looks like a secondhand one is all you will find, keep your eye's peeled on E-Bay or post a wanted add, you may get lucky.
  16. The nearest new Moulded carpets similar to the Originals are around £250 a set? Is it a full set of N.O.S. Stanpart Carpets you have the chance to buy? If so then they must be worth £250+ If the Vender was to put them on E-Bay and you get two people that really want them for a Concours rebuild, then I wouldn't be suprised to see them get up to £500+! ??) Then again if they are damaged or secondhand but still a full set it's whatever you feel comfortable with? I fitted a full set of the Newton Comercial moulded carpets to my Vitesse in 2006 and they still look good now, I would have prefered an original set, but you rarely see even sections of Black carpet these days.
  17. Nick there's no doubt they are far comfier than standard seats, but don't you find the seats hit the Hoodwell/B Post when you slide them back? I know the Herald/Vitesse models are only 5' wide too, which doesn't give a lot of space sideways either? I could certainly do with a bit more rearward travel on my seats. When I fitted them I had to raise them about 20mm and also outwards slightly to clear the transmission tunnel because I used the MGF Runners, maybe I ought to have fitted them to the Triumph runners :-/
  18. The MX5 Seats certainly seem to sit lower and go back further than the MGF Seats, they look smaller? If your over 5' 8" Tall they will be better. I've got MGF seats in my Car, I'm 5' 8" and have the seats as far back as they will go? :-/     They catch on the Hood Well/'B' Post bit :(
  19. Dave My offer still stands if the Valance is surplus to requirements? I have sent you a Personel Message (PM) Regards Gary
  20. redoxideVit wrote:I wish someone would make a lower/decambered version like the old TT/SAH ones,i tried three or four new springs including the Courier versions, all were far too high with horrendous positive camber and handling. S I've had the Opposite trouble with the rear Springs on my Vitesse, to soft and to low :-/ Just Hope the Original one I've rebuilt will solve the problem, when I can find time to fit it!
  21. Make sure you get the correct spring, Mk1 & Mk2 Rear Springs are not the same. I have had similar issues with the Quality of the Foreign manufactured springs :( If you've got a Mk2 Car I have a secondhand original Spring that is to the factory dimensions, just send me a PM, I don't want a lot for it? Regards Gary
  22. Dave If you want to sell the Vitesse Valance I'm interested? I will send you a PM with my Details Regards Gary

  24. See adjacent post on Vitesse Interior for details on MGF Seats? Highly recommended but not a straight swop :-/
  25. cliftyhanger wrote:I think the boss is always the tricky bit to find. The wheels were common to many cars, but getting the correct boss is nigh on impossible. It may be worthwhile getting a batch machined up, they would sell. I think Bill (Rarebits) was on about doing this, I'd have one for sure if the cost was reasonable? I suppose the Spline part would be the hardest bit to manufacture ::)
