  1. No I didn't take the backplate off, it was still in situ. Regarding the "cylinder". Happy to stand corrected but both Chris Witor and Rimmer Brothers call it a wheel cylinder So do L D Parts and for a bit of variety Mini Sport. I did search slave cylinder on Chris Witor's website and got clutch slave cylinder.
  2. I would need to see someone do this, hence my Youtube search. My brother told me the same thing or variation of but I couldn't hold/lodge one side in - the circlip kept falling off before I could get to the other side with said screwdriver 😲
  3. Even cheaper if you pop in which obviously isn't viable for many but as I work in Stoke through the week was fine for me. The tool and 2 spare circlips just in case I screwed up cost me £9
  4. No, but just to be clear. I am sure it's just a slip Doug but it's not the slave cylinder but rear brake wheel cylinder I am talking about. On this though it's no doubt my incompetence but I couldn't get the circlip on, either sliding it in, bashing it over, levering it, using g clamps or mole grips to hold the wheel cylinder etc etc etc. I only spent, oh 3 hours or so and got really p****d off Less than £10 and it was easy peasy
  5. Saw a great sticker on a car at Burnley show today. In the style of "Intel Inside" it was "Grumpy Old Git inside" 😀
  6. True enough but I was advising old Mr Charlton 😀 For us it will just be windows down 😎
  7. What a fine group of men A somewhat larger group will be doing the same in a few weeks
  8. Top down - crank up the music On days like these 😎
  9. I think I have sorted out my sound system. I didn't want to carve PMW about to fit speakers so I have bought a Bluetooth Speaker as in the picture hooked up to an old smartphone with 5000 tracks on it And it seems plenty loud enough plus I can take it anywhere
  10. Done that before and I can only say 1. Hope you stay on the right road. 2. Watch out Bambi
  11. Hasn't a Saab completed the event in the past Don? 😀 My reasoning is that if I get to within a week of the start and my 2000 refused to play I need another saloon for our 3 man crew and a cheap one at that. I don't think the days of cheap Triumph saloons are still there with them having a chance of getting round Europe with little/no prep. A 1990 Rover 214SI with 43000 miles has just gone for £230 on ebay - I think that would have more chance of making it round Europe as a last minute purchase. And having paid for ferries and hotels I am damned sure I would be  going whether accepted as part of the event or not
  12. I keep an eye out for emergency car replacements on ebay. Maestros and Rovers of various types keep coming up - sub £400 with MOT. Such a car will be purchased if I am within 1 week from the start and the 2000 is proving a bit of a sod
  13. So is everyone else fully sorted and ready? I am still slogging away replacing the rear suspension on the 2000. Then I may move on to the front as firmer fully sorted rear suspension could be an interesting combination with original 46 year old soft fronts. Time may be against me tho(think)
  14. Just taking a break from another afternoon session At least the replacement bushes have gone in this time
  15. Indeed I did from Mr Witor of course
  16. Well I have got them off. Burnt them in situ   Then drilled out centre steel tube followed by novel method of using 1 inch wood drill on the bushes which gets them out easy. Replacement bush is being a sod though so now having having a cuppa. Might yet take the arm off
  17. I expect this will have been asked before but is it possible to replace the rear trailing arm bushes without taking the whole arm off and using a press? I am currently struggling even though I have done this kind of thing before on TR7S. Any advice appreciated. Meanwhile I will return to the attack as I have plenty of other things to do 😀

  19. Engine, clutch  and overdrive all ok. Replacement of all springs and shocks as well as a full service needed next.

Nothing wrong with Speedos apart from the jealousy they  provoke but it's a burden I have come to live with  8)
  21. I am up for a  dip in the  sea and will have to bring along my  speedos 8) That would have to  be Croatia /Italy so somewhere near Trieste?
  22. Organising something yourself is fine but I am not sure I would want to do anything that could be construed as an event without Club and MSA back up. I have driven my TR7 round Europe just with a Co driver as an homage to the 2003 route and thoroughly enjoyed it. The 2015 10CR is an event though even if you don't follow the recommended route because there will be the experience of 80 crews at the start, the overnights and the finish. As I have said on the route thread the organisers can give me the route at  the start as a that is what I would prefer but having said that whatever they plan is fine with me.
  23. jcarruthers wrote: That's not really an event though is it? Surely the fun is driving with others in the club. Otherwise why not do it in your own time at your own pace. It's super cliquey if the whole thing is about "going off and doing your own thing" because it presumes people are in social groups. You could never sell the 10CR outside of the club that way. The problem is that Europe is really rather a large place and the chances of bumping in to someone goes down to virtually nil. It doesn't matter if that other Triumph is a mile away or 20 or 200. The last 10CR I did was in 2009 and we hardly saw another car which was just boring as hell. In 2005 I had the best event ever because we grouped up with Don as well as the Mr Picton — we did our own thing, went around a few places of interest, had some lovely food, all at our own leisure and it was superb. It was good because we were together. James *looking for something to reignite his love of CT* Well it felt like an event to me. The thing is there is a choice. In 2003 we drove pretty much by ourselves and then and different  times with different  people. Same in 2005. The memory of 3 of us finding the same petrol station near Rheims after midnight and then Graham Reeks swooping in always makes me smile. Then there's the time in 2005 when we travelled  by chance with Paul Derbyshire and Andy  Flexney with the famous Bambi incident is priceless. The camaraderie  is there  at the stops where  we can swap tall tales and ask things like "did you see  so and so  at X? or yes? We tried that road too but xxx I don't find it boring if I don't see another CT car for hours as I love the driving on great roads and will meet up with everyone at some point anyway. By all means  travel together  though on the route  that will be issued or one you create yourself When I am told I must follow a particular route or be at particular checkpoints at specified times I will know the event is not for me.
  24. I don't  think it would be sad if everyone did their own thing. My original  vision was turn up, pile  off the  ferry and see you in Nice at one of the possible hotels. The thought of being out there by ourselves with another Triumph within half a mile or 20 miles was part of the romance of it. Then there's the chance encounters and stops for fuel or food etc and seeing another entrant drive by or pull in for a quick chat. I don't  need a route or timings to be at particular places. Actually planning your own route and swapping ideas on here could be part of the pre event buzz that is missing
