  1. ....Is there a reasonably-priced source of these retaining strips as I have had a set of rubber bumpers for ages that have never been on the car since I've had it....(I even bought 4 of the metal end-pieces in readiness.....)????
  2. Solvol Autosol......& even toothpaste!!
  3. The thing about galvanising is that, hopefully, it stops the chassis rusting from the inside out. The only comparable alternative is to have the car's chassis  professionally rustproofed using lances & then fibre-optic analysis to make sure that every 'nook & cranny' of the inside of the sections has been coated...(which will cost a helluva lot more...) If the vehicle is being re-built from the 'bare bones' of a completely stripped chassis, then it's got to be a 'no-brainer'............
  4. Are you referring specifically to the 'small chassis' Triumph not taking well to galvanising, Mark...??
  5. ...That's interesting news - I had no idea that Wilkinson's stocked a classic oil........I should think it will be absolutely fine....
  6. ...The 'horn pencils' do not seem to be of particularly good quality these days & they can cause problems......

There are better modern versions nowadays. ...It's basically 'PTFE' isn't it? Supposedly the slipperiest substance known to man! Is this another of these modern compounds that are not supposed to be as good as they once were...ie. 'Hammerite'...?? Because there was a lot of talk about 30yrs. + ago in another clubs mag. (not Triumph) & also a letter in Octane mag. The people who seemed in favour of it at at the time were highly respected professionals not Sunday tinkerers..... :-/
  8. ...Don't touch the throttle for the second or two that the green light is on & the engine is making its 'death-rattle'.........I also run Slick 50 so hopefully reducing any damage in those critical first few seconds............
  9. 1218 wrote:I maybe wrong but IIRC the gaskets go between the rubber mount and the manifold.  Have you checked the rotor arm and the cap?  This would produce more of a miss rather than low power so presumably it isn't misfiring?  Those mounts are probably the culprits as the carburettors are probably taking in too much air.  There is no need to use Super unleaded. Mark Is the 1850 happy on 95 unleaded, Mark - I know that the handbook for the 1300 Dolomite specifies 97RON.....

S ..I think the point I was making was that it seemed to have realised quite a good price for the vendor, before Christmas. Given that it had storage surface corrosion, was up to about 30yrs. old - no warranty etc. In other words it's not as though it had been bought new from a trader.... I'm sure it was worth the money - I've heard of Mike 'the pipe' Randall - but there was no confirmation that it was his handiwork. I concede that due to financial penury I have to run my dear little Herald on the most meagre of budgets, but am proud that she is able to now sport a 'stainless' exhaust.... Were my financial situation better, i would not baulk at spending anything on her...in fact I've had to get a steering column joint replaced (upgraded UJ type) as the previous one (from a reputable trader) did about 6-6.5k miles & 18months!! I'm therefore well aware that paying for quality saves money in the long run...........
  11. Phew!!....An expensive Christmas present to oneself... :o
  12. Morris' 'Golden Film'...in conjunction with 'Fram' oil filters in Dolomite 1300 engined Herald & in my Scimitar - oil under twenty quid from my local hardware shop come Motor Factors.........

  14. ...Wasn't it the Stromberg that has the rubber diaphragm that either perishes or gets the odd 'pinhole'.....Just a thought....

    Conv Roof Question

...Would old seat belt webbing be more durable? Certainly won't rot as quickly........
  16. ...They don't crop up often on eBay - but when they do, the nice ones tend to go for around £250....

    which engine?

..I didn't know anything about the differences in crank in engines of the same cc.........What would my 1300 Dolomite engine, no. DH87728HE be..??...(It resides in my mid-sixties 1200 convertible....)
  18. ...Exhaust was fitted successfully, Clive - thanks for your help, much appreciated.........l
  19. WHAT!!.. ??)..I thought you could buy a boot-rack COMPLETE for that money........... :o
  20. ' Morning Clive...thanks for answering the 'Mayday'.......I've got a sent PM to Andy logged on Oct. 28th at 11.57pm..(No idea whether it's been read - would assume not..) Just wondering whether a pal of his who might be on here would hve a contact phone no...........
  21. ...Anybody know how I can contact Andy Connor..(in case he doesn't see my above reply......as the exhaust situation is crucial now, because the car is at my pals unit having some work done prior to going in for the MOT? If he has the relevant bit(s), I can drive over to pick them up or arrange a meet.......

    Radiator Swap?

...My wider-than-standard 'Stanpart' one recently went incontinent...about halfway up on the engine bay side. Has a multibladed manual fine & never shown any signs of overheating in the 5yrs. I've had her on the road. My pal in the trade tipped some rad. gloop that he'd been sold by a trade rep. Seems really good stuff - totally sealed it.
  24. ..Thanks Bill - 13/60 pipe it is then. I presume the 13/60 fitting kit then, rather than a 1200 kit with a 13/60 manifold gasket...??? Slight difference in bore size although the same back-box is listed for both, I think.....
