  1. Hi. I have fitted the shorter filter, which allows a steeper angle (will try find the info if you want), though I don't think it made any noticeable difference and was twice the price of my usual one. Even if the filter holds some oil, it is still the oil galleries that drain down. You could remove the dizzy king lead and crank over to prime the system, before starting. Cheers, Dave
  2. I think the bodies can wear a bit sometimes, mostly on the side, where the original strong return spring is fitted. (using a weaker/smaller spring and some wire extensions if needed works, if cables are free moving etc) can help reduce future wear I think?. A reckonised way of checking, non too critical shafts/bodies/bearings, play, is to check the unworn section of the shaft/spindle wear against the body/etc by moving it along a bit. I understand, that in carbs, the excess air at idle through that wear, does not affect wider throttle openings, thought harder to set up/tune carbs, as basic tuning is done at idle?. Cheers, Dave
  3. They are for Vitesse and are £44 each from Canley. The pair I bought were £17 delivered and appear better than my existing ones, so hopefully ok. Thanks, Dave
  4. Thanks, but, I'm all out of lathes just at the moment
  5. Hi. Current brake drums have been on car since I bought it 4 years ago and both have some scoring and a lip on the outer edge through general wear. Has always passed Mot with "very good brakes". I have just bought some second hand ones, off Ebay, cheap, as I thought, handy for spares, as use the car a fair bit. They look to be a matched pair, due to the same level of rust on the outside surface. One is really good, with even braking surface, tother, is a bit more uneven and a slight lip, (maybe a couple of thou), though from memory not a bad as my current ones. Wondering, what the real world analysis, (from description),of serviceability, would be from you experienced folk, please. Thanks, Dave
  6. Hi. As far as I am aware oil pressure in the bearings, is not connected to an engine burning oil in the cylinders. Dave
  7. Would a petrol resistant sealant/locktite help? Dave
  8. Phew. Glad there is an advantage for the Mk 1. Cheers, Dave
  9. Hi. Have fitted new seals and the doors were still a bit proud at bottom rear (a bit of tub spread probably). I Moved the striker plates in and looks a lot better, though the doors are needing a good hefty shove to close them. I think I read about bending the lip that the seal pushes onto, inwards a bit to help with this. Has anyone tried this, or any other tips please?. Cheers, Dave

  13. Hi. Finally saved a bit of cash to buy the correct ones that Bill Davis (Rarebits) was supplying. Rarebits website doesn't appear to exist anymore and no response from a previous email address and his private message name on here isn't available to PM him. Does anyone know if he is still doing any trading, or a way of contacting him please. Failing that, Baines seals have some seals on the the Triumph section of their website, that look a similar profile to Bills, though described as "draught excluders" and they have no knowledge of selling them as door seals for Vit/Herald. Wondered if anyone has used them for these, or any knowledge of other suppliers. Any help great, thanks

  15. That's interesting John. A quick test is just to remove it then (only run NOS ones now, so hopefully not the very regular issue it has been). Dave
  16. Hi Thinking of applying copper grease (as I have some) to inside of my electric connections and earth points, as apparently it is conductive. Any thoughts please. Thanks, Dave
  17. Thanks everyone. Not boring to me Ted, if you want to add more Cheers, Dave
  18. Hi. Any "tips and tricks" on crimping more heavy duty cable, eg battery to terminal fasteners, without the use of a pricey tool, please. Thanks, Dave
  19. On a couple of occasions when car running badly, I would have got to the problem sooner if I had, had a look at the plugs colour/wetness at the time. Just a thought.
  20. Brill!. I used the much cheaper Landy clutch M/C on Vit Mk1 2litre (slightly different bore size). Bit more pedal pressure needed, but helped with the clutch disengaging better (I used to get some baulking on 1st at times and sometimes a bit of crashing going into reverse with the pedal to the metal). Maybe some wear on pedal linkage to M/C / Not totally 100% bled / other things too? ). Now I only have to dip the clutch about a  1/3 way down to get smooth gear change, even in 1st/reverse. Is the slave for the Vit 6, the same as for 2 Litre (to use the Landy one), anyone please?. Dave
  21. Hi Mine are not leaking, though tired. Any specific products, or even better, house hold/other alternative stuff that could preserve them a bit longer. Looked on the net and as usual many different (conflicting) opinions. Thanks, Dave
  22. Thanks Nick I couldn't see why not, though bit careful of assumptions. In that case then can a length of the cheap jump lead cable be used also?. Cheers, Dave
  23. Hi Can a copper strand starter cable be used for earth, instead to the usual braided one. Cheers, Dave
  24. Hi Car running dynamo at the mo. I have to top up the battery charge every couple of weeks in winter. My charger has failed. Is it best to buy a charger with lower trickle/overnight, type, for more frequent use please?. Cheers, Dave
