Hi. Any trick or tips on diagnosing this please?, would be much appreciated. It's a Vitesse Mk1 2 Litre Thanks Dave
-
Hi. I just used building/rubble sack plastic on mine. just needs to be thin/flexible enough to gather up, as window drops.
-
Same here, the water-pistol pump on my Spitfire is more than adequate, plus it helps reduce electrical load on the dynamo :) Is the water pistol one a more modern repro, do you know, as wondering if they are ok?. Thanks, Dave

Ok Glang. Thought I read way back on thread it was noisy, accelerating from 60 to 70.
-
Just a thought, if it may be pinking. Would weak advance springs cause too much advance at the wrong time?. Dave
-
I think this noise was discounted as pinking in a previous thread?. I used to have pinking in the Vitesse at mid/higher revs when accelerating, though non at the usual low revs and high gear/load. I think the car is set up better now and no longer does it. just a thought. Dave

Would placing a spirit level under the main rails at different lengths along the chassis confirm straight/twisted. -
Hi Tim Just checking that when you took a reading off the back of the dynamo, This was with the 2 wires removed and the 2 dynamo terminals connected with a length of wire, and tested at between 7-10 thou rpm. Dave

Are BP5ES (NGK) plugs still the best/sensible choice?
daver clasper replied to Ben Hutchings's topic in Electrical
Hi. I have been using NGK in Vitesse (2 sets in 15.000 miles), about £10 inc postage for 6 off ebay. Had 2 fail in that time. Mine have always got very sooty in that time, due to lot's of city driving and being set a bit too rich, and have heard of them not working after getting sooty, or wet. So on the whole have been ok for me, though car not driven hard?. Dave -
Hi. Does the Vitesse have the same size (1/4") int diameter hose along the fuel supply from tank to carbs?. I gather GT6 uses a bit larger diameter hose between tank to pump. Thanks, Dave

Wow. With these alternatives, I think I will go back to trying oil again, rather than the grease, I've been using for a while!. Cheers, Dave
-
Interesting. So, possibly no need to buy an expensive grease gun, with a couple of cheap alternatives?. Dave
-
In the past I have read that a large plastic syringe will work (with nipple removed), as doesn't need the same pressure, as say a U/J, to fill/escape?. Dave
-
I have found that sometimes with cheaper grease guns it helps to have and extra hand to press the end fitment firmly down and square to the nipple while pumping, to avoid this. Also if car is jacked up, wheels off the ground, then less load on trunnions, which helps a bit. Cheers, Dave

I always assumed with all the sensors etc on moderns, it was that, keeping the coolant rock steady.

Just surfacing an old thread. Why would any mechanical carbs, worn or not go out of tune so quickly ? Thanks, Dave

Might be worth contacting Chic Doig as I think he may have body/chassis sections that the usual suspects don't Dave

There is a breather somewhere on the box I understand. Could this blocked, causing it to pressurise?. Dave

Went to Halfords as I wanted to try Rain X anyway, as my wipers aren't brill. On offer, as buy one, get one free. The free MOT voucher is valid for 10 months apparently, so no rush and will give it a go I think. Would normally support a local garage, but the one have been using, p..... me off last time. Dave
-
The only thing was "no buying just a carrier bag". I thought it would be ok for my MOT exempt (they said this was no problem), Triumph, as even if an enthusiastic tester, would give me an idea, that I can check out myself.

Hi. Phoned them about this. No catch apparently. Dave

Removing free play will also help with your gear crunching I think, as clutch has more chance of disengaging. This is only my assumption?. Dave

I have wondered about this. I used to run 95, though I used to retard my timing to stop pinking I think. I say I think, as I still have to retard my timing for pinking fairly often, even when regularly running 99 for some reason?. I didn't notice any difference in power on 95, though some far more experienced than me say the retarding not good for engine?, so using 99. Dave
