  1. Ah, Jason I know where you live and how to get their! After that if you were gonna use your car I would stop and paint your TIRES (note correct spelling) but I like Nigel, he buys me Beer! Team "SHORTS, I thought it was Team "SNORTS"  You can spot them a mile away so you know you are on route!  Not that they are!
  2. Team DollyRoo has teamed up with Team Moe and we have all our rooms booked!   AHHHHHHH - Chris, Snores!   All Hail the "Great Ash"
  3. As a X pro who still holds a Commercial License for any type of vehicle legal for road use here in the states, Yes the RBRR would be illegal under DOT rules.  The RBRR is not subject to those rules!   In fact I know of no country that puts limits on private drivers.  Yes it is illegal to drive impaired (sleepy) in most county's.   Enough information is out here for the first timers to know what they are getting into.   Ok some who have done the run thought it was too much and are not going to enter again.  No event is for everyone!  I think the run should stay as is.  I hope like the rest of you I will know when I am just too old to do another.  I think the main theme here is: If you don't like or approve, Don't enter but, don't look down on us that who make the run.  Stay in your own comffy zone, 2, 3 or more drivers it's up to you. Yes their have been some problems but to me it's not the lack of sleep but those who think it is some kind of RACE and drive stupid even if not Sleepy!  How many accidents have been caused by lack of sleep?   (Not pointing finger)
  4. Here is a pic of Glen and his Stag alongside of my Herald Estate at one of our local shows.
  5. Glen Minucci is a Good Friend and local club member, who lives just 25 miles south of me.  I drove his Nice Stag to our Christmas Party last year.  He was looking forward to the 10CR.   Welcome aboard Gang!
  6. All could be made to wait by simply not giving the road books back till a leave time.    Note, this would mean a early start or late finish.   It would also defeat the reason for the run.   I have to think only a few would use the extra time for rest.
  7. As most of you know I have entered the last 4 runs.  Three times with a crew of 3 and the last with only 2 of us.   All in all I prefer a crew of 3.  The last run I was with a first timer.   I have no negative comments about my last co driver.  However as his first time he was not familiar with most of the area we covered.  Therefore it was a must most of the time both had to be awake, drive and navigate.  It did help that some of the route I drove I knew where I was going, but Steve still found it hard to sleep.  (OK maby my driving, but the excitement of the run, he was just geared up) Yes we had a sat/nav and we did follow when we could.  By Sunday morning we were both quite tired.  Had we not broke down, on to the finish would have been a struggle.   With a 2 person crew you must no matter what each get some sleep.  I am lucky that I can sleep in almost any car and noise is not a problem.  I know many do it with only 2 but, many are veterans who know what to expect and so on.  They are used to each other and can nap while the other is driving.  They also have a good idea of the route.  I also know of a group who had 3 cars.   This is fine if you can stick together and not run off from each other.   My point is their is no shame in any size crew.   Important thing is that you do it safely!   Know your limits and pull over if you must.   As a X long haul driver I know my limits, when I am tired and or getting sleepy.  I also know how tho recognize when my co driver is drowsy.    I will say I would do it again with only Steve as now he also knows what to expect.  I think we did very well considering we did not know each other till 2 days before the run.   Last important note, go over the road book, over and over as much as you can before you try for the first time.  Know where you are going and have a good map in case you get off course.   Study how to get to the check points no matter what.   I do not know if I will do the next one but,  like the last I would hate to see anyone drop out due to loss a a crew member.
  8. Andy's looks a litter darker than Gary's.   My carpet set is about the same color as Andy's door cap.   So now my question is anything darker than the two examples above? Thanks guys.
  9. Thanks Gary:  This is the same as my car had when I bought it. Anyone got a pic of the Midnight Blue? Remember Andy mine was not sold new in the States.
  10. Soon I will order the interior trim kit for my Blue Herald.  I see their are 2 different shades, one dark and one light?   I have a new Very Dark Blue Carpet set.  Most of you have seen pics of the shade of Wedgewood Blue on the car.   Any one have a picture of both interior colors on a car the color of mine?  Or a color sample of both?  I would like to see what it might look like before I order the trim kit.

    Chrome trim

Easy.   First look inside of the boot, feel to see if the last stud is held on by a nut.  (rear-pointy end)  If so undue the nut.  If no nut then start at ether end with a small flat screwdriver (flat plastic one works better) place flat end under the strip and gently pull up on the chrome.  It should just pop off.  Don't pry too hard as this can bend the strip.  I assume on some their might be a nut on the end at the B pillar.  If so on saloon's and Estates you will have to remove the panel on the inside to gain access.  Conv's you should be able to reach with the hood up.   If you pull out a rivit, no problem as replacements are easy to find.   To re install, just place the strip over the rivits and with the palm of your hand just a quick tap and it will snap back on.  Then install the nuts if any.

    No oil filter?!

Unless you tear the engine down their is no real way to know.   However, if the oil looked clean and the car has not been driven very far without filter then most likely their will be no adverse effect.   With the drain plug out you can stick your finger in and swish it around and see if any dirt, grit or sludge in on your finger.  I hate to say this but you have no idea if and when this guy ever put a filter in.   I would also change the oil and filter again at about 500 miles or 3 months.   With luck all will be well.   I am sure you know this, Allways Check that the "0" ring seal form the old is OFF before you use a new one!  If not it will not seal and leak.     Don't ask me how I know.  Not mine but a friends MG!
  13. McJim: I was refering to BEANS as who got to Tebay first. I know of no drink that Ferny will not Drink!   Don't ask me how I know. Yes I hear the beer at Rolduc calling, I hope they don't run out of glass's this time!
  14. Just had a chat with Keith:  He will get the clock up and running soon, It's on his to do list.  I do not have that kind of power. Ah, just who got to Tebay first? Heard form Steve Povey, he has sent his entry in! The Hotel, me thinks that was what the guy who hit the wall was after, MY BEER!   He just missed Pete, Ash and me!

RE-CORE, RE-CORE     If price is the same of very close allways re-core rather then buy a used one.   No matter how good a used one looks you don't know the real shape of it's innards.   At least with a re-core you know it's good and have some recourse if it fails.
  16. I can understand the photo.  Notice the caps are still on the bottle's !   However where are the rest of the bottles ?  I know I saw at least 30 when I passed the stop !    Now if that had been BEER, I would have stolen it all to drink back at the Plough !   NO I DON'T SHARE !
  17. Looks like Team "DollyRoo"  will be back for a 3rd run.  Talked to Ash yesterday and he saw Ellis at the meeting on Monday.  Ash say's were IN!   Ellis, please take note some of us are thankful for what you do and all the time, work and effort you put into this.   I am sure some of us do this just to drive our cars, be with some good people and have fun.   Can't wait to see the entry list, order and who's first!   (hint-hint)   I am sure in a few day's the list will come out.  I do hope all that sent a entry get in.  Would be great to see my newest team mate, Steve, on the list.  (and his car back)  Early Congrats to all who get in! As said above, some of us must enjoy this as the entry list fills quick.   My mag has not arrived yet and all I want cleared up is what time is the start in france?   This thread started as, "Start The Clock"  Well?  Start The Clock, please.
  18. Clair: I am Corn-Fussed?  You got on the forum OK as you posted.    Look on the top header - "The Magazine" - hold mouse, drop down, then click on current, choose 10CR and the whole thing will appear.   Page two is the entry form.    What You Not Going?   If not does that mean Ash and I will have to stick you in the boot?  Not the same without you. Of course my mag has not arrived but, Ash's did and our entry has been sent.
  19. I have posted this thread for those who want a Co-Driver's seat.   I have made it a sticky so it will be on top so the post's will be easy to find.   Please list yourself here. Goody

Humph!  Changed your handle hunh!    I knew you could not go long without a Herald.   Their will be MORE!
  22. One thing to note.  I know of one Dolomite (hit sheep,10) and one Spitfire (rollover) fail due to accident.  One Spitfire out due to windscreen loss (06).   Hard to blame the cars for these.  I think the other Dolomite also was out due to accident at the same spot as the Spitfire rollover but not sure.
  23. Just note you all are lucky as if we could drink on the run their would be NO BEER left for the rest of you!
  24. At first I would think the big cars are not as old as some of the small ones.  I will say that a small car can do the run as Steve and I were never late or behind.  We drove at or below the speed limit and did not waste any time at the control's and made most before they opened.   Had I planed to enter from the start I would have used my Dolomite.  As most know I was a last minuet replacement co driver.  Though we did not finish, I think we would have if a wheel had not left us.   Since I do not know any other 2L Vitesse that did the run we spent almost 400 pounds for fuel from the start to just after Lands End.  Not sure if money is the issue.   How much was the average fuel cost?   We did not have a working spedo so we could not get a MPH.   (used the sat/nav) for speed.
