James
I have one in my Mk3 - it's an ok engine - it's not quite as sweet a proper Mk3 engine... I have a long running dispute with mine... mine is proper dodgy now though...Having said all of that - my new engine is a 1500! Albeit a finely fettled one... hopefully! Tim Bancroft
Dave, pay no attention to James' coughing fit he's a mk3 Spit elitist!Amongst the Small Engine cogoscenti, the MK3 Spit engine is the one to have(breathes well, has cam bearings and produces good power), the Mk.4 engine is the one not to have- however the differences are not so massive. Of course your engine coupled with a nice J type o/d box will be just peachy! very good going up the Stelvio! Come on you Heralds!
Deleted User
What did the le Mans spittys have... Does anyone make a harmonic damper for Spits... sounds like they could use one!!!!I use to have the same problem ona mates 1500 spiity that was making a mildish 80bhp at the wheels... loctite and 150lb/ft was not the answer... in fact from memory we never solved it...Must be a harmonic vibe to cause that sort of problem...
