malbaby
Please advise what is required to successfully install a 2500 triumph engine and gearbox into a TR4.

Richard B
I remember reading that it is easier to turn a TR6 into a TR5, than a TR4 into a TR5.

mikeyb
I'm reading the original question a little differently. I think that the OP is asking what needs to be done to upgrade his Tr4 4-pot to a 6-pot - not recreate a TR5? :-/

ferny
A TR250 is an American TR5, but with carbs instead of injection to reduce the emissions. They sold the TR6 there though, so did they ever sell a "proper" 5 there?
Andy Flexney
Ferny, the TR6 was also on carbs, the engine only produced about 100 BHP and is not a lot of fun to drive.I have heard stories of a TR5 in California apparently it is the one Triumph sent across for all the testing and after it failed they never bothered bringing it back. I think it was then imported privately therefore was not subject to the same testing. Can anyone put any light on this?AndyF
mikeyb
pretty sure Kas Kastner had one out there? Or possibly it was a 250 . . .
69vitesse
The TR4 with the 6, aka the TR250.Even in its gutless US form not too bad a car and doesn't give away too much real world performance to a PI TR6, its got a surprsing amount of torque. With a hotter Vitesse cam, the twin outlet cast manifold and a decent compression ratio, it would be good for 125-135bhp and be quite spritely. Richard B
Read John Macarthys book 'In the footsteps of my father", someone used to ship TR5's back to the states as personal imports ;D
