DavB
hi allJust bought a 1963 herald and thought it had a 1200 engine but think its a 1300 engine number GE 78962HE is this the high compression onw?and what is the horsepower, and is there a way i can improve the performance i.e. better cam or twin su`s etc.sorry for being such a noob its my first time on this forum and my first herald many thanks in advanceDav
Mark Hammond
It is a small crank 1300, the one everyone wants. Cam change with a pair of SUs could get it to 75bhp as per MKlll Spitfire and beyond, careful, bottom end can get fragile. Stock bhp was 61 when new in the 13/60.Mark

HMaze
FE Spitfire Mk3 (US) small crankFK Spitfire Mk 4 (US) large crankboth low compressionthere is also FL, 1500 for swedenand FP, 1500 in the midget. And there is the odd GK(!), a 1200 from the german amphicar. So Triumph did use the same prefix for two different engines!Cheers,Harry

Nick Jones
GE is 13/60 Herald. Small-crank 1300 and about the the most tunable of the 4 pots if you want a screamer.Nick
Scimher
..I didn't know anything about the differences in crank in engines of the same cc.........What would my 1300 Dolomite engine, no. DH87728HE be..??...(It resides in my mid-sixties 1200 convertible....)
Nick Jones
That will be a large crank 1300 similar to the GK series used in the later 13/60. Not so able to survive high rpm.Nick
