karl1
I have a lot of play in my steering wheel? When the bonnet is opened and one looks down to the steering shaft where it enters the cars bulkhead thats where the play is. There are two rubber bushes and just below them the UJ joint. It seems as if something has gone adrift on my steering or something is very badly worn?
thescrapman
Mk1 or Mk2? There is a bush where the column passes through the bulkhead that breaks up. And is a right git to replace.
karl1
Its a Mk2 oh just my luck then?
nang
Not luck, just old age 😆 Not too bad to replace although you'll need to disconnect the u/j securing bolt and pull the column up enough to replace the bush. Getting the splines lined up is the hardest job to do if you're working on your own. I've done a couple though without any major drama. Tony. RobPearce
Yep, had that fail on my PI back in the day. It's awkward and time consuming but definitely possible.
karl1
Thanks Tony and Rob. I think I will skip on that for now and do the other jobs first.😉
