Just brute force and ignorance or is there a special tool/way?

Take rivet out of A post bracket, remove door trim panel check should be removeable from inside the door carcass...peter

Getting a new rivet in place is the bigger problem....

Its the removable from inside the door carcass that is the tough part - there is a retaining clip and the check strap needs to be prised out - need to eat loads of spinach to get them out

It's some time since I've done this on an early car, I know there are differences, but surely a swift tap on the end will have the ceck strap rattling around loose inside the door? At full door opening the end locks in position, the tension is easily overcome with the aformentioned tap,
