philheys100
Thanks both,Where did you mount it on the dash?Would you say that dash mounted is better than column? What size of hole did you cut into the dash? Thanks
philheys100
Guys,Is this the correct switch for a 73 mk4 Spitfire?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Ignition-Switch-for-Triumph-Spitfire-IV-15-and-Triumph-TR6-late-cars-/261257924039?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cd42f8dc7Thanks
Mike Evans
Looks similar to the one fitted to my old one but you would also need the key lock and attachment bracket to use with thisEven then I found it in an awkward place under the dash by your knees not ideal
philheys100
mdvehicle - thanks for your post, would you recomend a the dash type then?Where would you fit the switch on the dash? Thanks Phil
Mike Evans
It's all down to personal taste and space behind the dash and also cable length, all factors allowing I personally would fit on the right somewhere that looks pleasing to the eyeWhen it comes to a modification like this there is no right or wrong answer it's what appeals to yourselfCheers mike
nang
I got sick of trying to find where to put the key (especially at night) so fitted the dash one (out of a Hillman Hunter I Wrecked years ago) on the bottom right hand corner where the P/O had fitted a push button starter switch. Have a good look first, there isn't a hell of a lot of room but it will fit.Tony.
Dannyb
I think it will look better on the dash and easier to locate. But you will loose the steering lock.
philheys100
Thanks Guys,I think the dash switch is the better option there not much room in these cars as it is so trying to locate a key under the steering column just puts me off!Any tricks to fitting the switch, I am thinking of a locking nut behind the switch on the dash.ThanksPhil
Paudman
If you’re going to remove the original column switch then don’t be tied down by placing it on the dash - Saab’s have it in the centre console and it was always a very handy spot. I know the Spitfire console isn’t ideal but consider other and maybe handier places than just the dash - beside the radio, perhaps?
