Eddy
I dont know that an oil pressure light flickering at idle is a big deal.I seem to remember that my old Herald used to do that, it was quite normal. The important thing is that the light goes out when the engine is at speed. Beans
You better should worry, because, (pressuming your warning light functions properly ...Quote:the light should switch off between 3 and 5 psiEven an engine with rather worn main bearings has more oil pressure than that. trackerjack
My Sprint runs just above 50 psi at all times and approx 30 at hot tickover.
Deleted User
The light hasnt been on in the last week or so ,but I would still like to track down where the oil pressure relief valve is...can any one tell me? to be honest the engine is running and working so I am happy! Eddy
Like all oil pumps, its a fixed dispacement pump, oil pressure increases with speed, until at some point, the pressure relief valve lifts and controls the pressure. My guess is that changing the relief valve spring/setting wont alter oil pressure at idle. You can remove the valve with the pump inplace but it is better to remove the pump from the engine.Oilpump sits on the under/outside off the engine, between the gearbox adaptor plate and the oilfilter. It's fixed with four bolts, although you maybe have to undo the bell-housing bolt right underneath it to remove the pump. While you have the pump off, check the internals for wear ... Deleted User
I was asking as on a six pot you can get at the valve very easily-see pic-in the big long "nut" near the oil pipe screwed into the block hides the spring and valve
